I like FUNi and Kai equally, my main issue (Goku and Vegeta VAs) is the same in both. Brian Drummond as Vegeta is a deal breaker for me. I'd take the FUNi Gohan voice over the recast Kai one, though.

You know what the problem is with this discussion?

The Japanese version is indeed better, but I will always enjoy the English version more, why? Very simple, because I grew up with it. I think I speak for many people when I say DBZ always gives you nostalgic feelings and that's why you love the show so much. I don't care about all the little details in the script, I just want to enjoy a show I grew up with, with awesome soundtracks and familiar voices.

Also: DBZ Kai Dub FTW!!!

Even though that's how most people see it Ginuy for me its not based in nostalgia at all ^_^ the funimation dub really was the one dbz I First saw and loved but still if I watehd the Japanese one instead then there's no way that I would feel the same the suspense the excitements Funimations dub voices themes musics were much better for me than the original Japanese :)

GinyuTokusentai is a shining example of a good dub fan, here. There's nothing wrong with liking or even preferring a "reversioning" of the show, so long as you're still able to acknowledge, respect, and appreciate it in its original form. But the nitwits you see here and there who are all, "lol eng dub >>>>>>> jap so ghey goku soundz liek a gurl" don't deserve to call themselves fans of ANYTHING with the title "Dragon Ball" attached to it.

The thing I take from this is that, by and large, people seem to like the dub they originally heard. I'm in a weird spot in that when I first saw DBZ, only the Saban/Ocean Group episodes had been done, and it looked for a little while like DBZ was dead in the U.S. So I saw the Ocean Group dub (the one on the Rock the Dragon set), then I bought the rest of the eps fansubbed on VCDs from ebay bootleggers. Then I saw the FUNi dub on Toonami. So it's hard for me to be nostalgic for any one version, I just go off of the VAs I like the most and leave the censorship issues out of it, I honestly can't keep it all straight anymore as to which dub censored what and how.

Many people like the Japanese more but I have watched it and I don't think its nearly as good as the Funi one there themes and characters voices sounds a bit awkard to me :)

I probably like the original Japanese soundtrack the best, but overall the uncut English version of Kai is my preferred way of watching the show. The Funimation cast really grew into their roles and Chris Sabat does a much better job of voicing Vegeta.

I also never noticed until later just how much the original Funi dub would use moments of silence to add in their own dialogue that wasn't supposed to be there.

I don't know. I think people tend to like the Japanese version better because the script is more accurate and doesn't have as many dub errors as the Eng dub. Not only that, the atmosphere, the music, everything is the way that Toriyama intended DBZ to be like. I know many people don't like the Japanese voices but you have to admit, the Japanese VA really know how to bring out the emotion of their characters. And people tend to like the Eng dub better because it has an awesome soundtrack and cool voices and well, 'cause most people grew up with it. I like both versions, I don't really like debating or getting into heated arguments over which version is better like people do on YT.

For me it goes

Funi original dub>Funi remastered>Ocean episodes 1-53>Funimation Kai>Original Japanese>Ocean episodes 108-276>Big Green dub

I feel like Funimation's voices have always fitted the best. And while their acting was better in Kai and it was more accurate I still preferred the altered dialogue in the Funi Z dub. Plus the Kai score doesn't hold a candle to Faulconer in my books. The Ocean dub was amazing for the early episodes and had a fantastic score by Shuki Levy but sucked later on with the rushed performances and the Megaman music. The Japanese version is very well acted and has the least amount of plot holes but I felt the Japanese score went downhill in Z after being great in DB. I'm fine with Goku's Japanese voice although Bardock really shouldn't have the same voice.

Speaking of that, I notice people say Funi original dub > Funi remastered dub.

I would've thought the Funi remastered dub would be > than Funi original dub.

What's the difference? Why do some people like the original better than the remastered?

Funimation dub with Bruce Faulconer's score for life! I also rep Ocean Dub from time to time. Can't stand the japanese dub actors or the music either. An old japanese lady plays Goku for Faulconer's sake! But f*** dragon ball z kai in ANY language. And f*** DBZ kai period.

Because the remastered dub had some actors replaced and some of the others like Chris Sabat who voices Vegeta re-dubbed their old lines. Mainly I prefer Funi original because I liked Dale Kelly more as the narrator than Kyle Herbert. He just had a really epic voice. And the original Funi dub had better openings like Rock the Dragon and the Faulconer openings. And even though Chris Sabat was technically better as Vegeta in the redub I have a lot of nostalgia for his old performance were he used to impersonate Ocean Vegeta. I really liked his death scene against Frieza more when Sabat first recorded it. And Funi changed some of the music placement in the Ginyu Force fight in the remastered dub so Goku powering up against Captain Ginyu didn't sound as good.
