So, this thread is going to be kind of personal and depressing, but if you can handle that, I'd really appreciate your input. I'm in a bit of a... situation. I'm pretty sure I have depression to some extent. I've been thinking this for a couple of years now but never did anything about it because it would come in waves, and I always had someone to talk to about my problems. Currently, however, I feel like it's completely overwhelming me. I used to see a therapist every few weeks to talk about my problems and such, but I never mentioned these depressive feelings to her before. I haven't been to her in months (probably four months or so) because my parents couldn't afford it anymore. It was $100 per session, and our insurance didn't cover it. I don't have the money to pay those fees either. I really feel like I need some help, whether it be talking to a therapist, getting on medication, or both, but I have no idea what to do about it. I don't want to try to find another therapist or something that my insurance will cover because I don't want to start over, and I'm also afraid to tell my parents how bad I'm feeling and ask them to pay the money for me. Is there a way to get over this some other way? I used to talk to someone 24/7 about all of my problems, and they made me so happy, but I'm completely crushed because I don't have them anymore, and life is overwhelming me. How does one go about getting prescribed depression medication? Does it even work? I don't really know what to do. :/ |

I try to occupy my thoughts with anything I can because as soon as I start to sit down and think, it all seems to spiral out of control. I can't keep my thoughts in check. |

I do, but I've only ever opened up to one person. It's hard for me to do. |

Meditation is the ability to completely stop thinking of thoughts. Which raises your awareness and gets rid of negativity since thoughts create negativity. It would take time to learn but evidence shows that it creates peace in people. Read more on how to do it. It might solve your problem : ) Edited by Zenet, Oct 12 2013, 11:23 PM.

Your university might have counsellors you can talk to, or at least people who can point you in the right direction.

Talk to your friends and seek professional help. When I had depression I just slept, hurt myself, and played video games; it went away. |

That's the layman understanding. A better explanation would be allowing the thoughts to come and go completely, and therefore making them lose their power over you. Meditation is a good answer if you can actually dedicate yourself daily without exception. When you start skipping days all the work you've done will become trash. The two best things that an internet person can tell you 1) Seek professional help. 2) Hit the gym. Make sure you sweat at least once everyday. Those are two things you can't go wrong with. |

Going to the gym will help if you let it. You can go and still be so consumed that it does nothing for you. |

I don't think it'll work as a cure if you just go to the gym and say please cure me gods of exercise. If you do it as supplemental to something else and don't consider it a means or a cure it will work wonders. Also I know everyone wants to help, including me, but the internet is a very bad place for these sort of things... |

Tell ya friends that'll help hopefully just because they'll be more considerate than usual perhaps. Don't have to be like "waaahhhh I gots depression hold me" could just say you've been feeling down lately. Gym or any exercise could help seeing as it does cause the release of chemicals that make you happy or something. Don't think it needs to be every day though. Walking in random places (less grimey the better I'd imagine) can be good too, with friends if possible. Idk bout you but unis have counsellors at least and at least sometimes they have psychiatric services that you can probably find out about online and maybe you have to call them or go in and see them and they'll be all nice to you maybe. They're designed for typical students so yeh.... Cider is good. Or something. Not recommended by most though. edit: It's important to eat properly too even if you don't feel like it. How come? Internet connects everyone around the world sharing ideas I think its no different than speaking to someone in person in terms of ideas.
Its said people who practice altot can stay in the mediation state or peace of mind 24/7. Exercise doesn't change your mind much because it has nothing to do with the brain habits of thoughts. Edited by Zenet, Oct 13 2013, 10:32 AM.

Why is the internet a bad place to ask things many people will come and try to help you with you're problem from different populations On topic meditation is a thing that will really help you relax in hard times I was doing it as well and my mind and body were completly calm and I felt better
