Do you ever leave jobs or grades off your CV to make sure you're not viewed as overqualified? Is it ok to do that? |

It seems kind of dishonest to leave stuff off just to make you seem less overqualified, never done that myself and I don't know what the ethical issues are behind it, have you read much about that? |

I have to leave off one of the grades for the subject I did in school...because I was never given the grade. They just forgot to put it on the results or something, so even I don't know what grade I got. I also have to leave off another school grade because I misplaced the paper that had the grade on it. Other than those, I don't leave any off. |

I haven't really got a lot to put on my CV (school grades and one job that lasted four years), so my CV would start to look a little poor if I left things out. I'm not sure whether it should be viewed as 'wrong' to make yourself seem less qualified so that people will hire you. I've never understood why you can be considered overqualified and therefore not a candidate for a job. Surely it should be enough for the employers that you want the job enough to apply for it. So I wouldn't feel too bad at leaving off good stuff, just don't leave off bad stuff, or make stuff up. |

It's dishonest but normally people big themselves up (make out they're really enthusiastic/passionate about a job, go on about how they've been in a team or whatever) so is it really any worse than that? I guess employers think people who are seemingly overqualified are going to leave the job quickly or not be motivated since they really want a better job. |

I've always been told to sell yourself out on these kind of things. I think you should put as much as you can. |

No you type out a thing that lists your education, work experience and then random skills/hobbies/achievements. As for selling yourself yeh normally you're told that but what if you could be viewed as overqualified? Then should you undersell yourself in some ways? |

You want to be honest with your resume. If you have the accolades and grades, there is no reason why it should be seen as a bad thing. In today's job market, the employers seem to be looking for experience and the education. If you feel like you have those things, then try applying to places that require excellent resume details. You shouldn't have to sell yourself short. |

I've hidden things from my CV before, but I've grown to realize that's typically not a smart thing to do. In my case I did it because I thought it could help my chances of getting a certain job if they didnt know I had worked at some places. I've worked as a PR for clubs for multiple years and I thought that wasn't going to be well received by certain companies, but I've realized that experience and versatility is often welcomed in every field. Nowadays I usually feel like people are impressed by me working in polarizing areas and I keep everything in my CV precisely because of that. |
