I've got a few lying around that I'm selling. I was told it's bad to them on a carpet, but right now I have them "face" down (the side with the covering and the fan) on top of a cardboard box. Anyone know if this a bad idea?

I think they're durable enough that it doesn't really matter. I've read that RAM is the one you need to protect.

It's the environment I'd be worried about. If that cardboard box is in a dry area that's not too hot or cold, then you should be fine, but the risk of ESD is still there.

Ideally you'd want to store them either in the cases they came in or an anti-static bag.

Well, I already packed up the ones that didn't have a box and the other one I have is stored the way it came, so I'm sure that's not a problem.

But, I'll remember this if I ever have to sell some again.
