It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Ok, I just had one of the weirdest, most terrifying experiences of my life. It's sort of happened before, but only maybe 20-25% as intense as this. Basically, I was laying down on the sofa and thought I was awake, but just laying there with my eyes closed. My Mum was sitting on the other sofa in the room, which I knew before I fell asleep, but in this weird state I was in, I thought it was my Nan. So there I was, laying down "awake" with my eyes closed, when my body started to feel pressurised, like my blood was boiling, and when I tried to move I couldn't. I can't explain how horrible this feeling was, and it didn't feel exactly how I'm describing it, but it's the closest I can put into words. An intense, blood boiling pressure. I could sort of move, but it was incredibly hard and it took all the effort I could muster to move inch by inch. I started to try and move and call out to my Nan (who was actually my Mum) but I couldn't move enough to get her attention, and when I called out, no noise followed. I started to breathe heavily and my heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest. And then I just...woke up. And that was that. I'm not sure how much sense that made, but it's really hard to explain and put into words. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen, or know what I'm talking about? |

Could it be lucid dreaming? Never had such a thing. I haven't had a dream that I could remember when waking up in at least a year. |

Yeah it might be sleep paralysis. I can't remember the specifics so don't quote me on any of this, but our muscles weaken naturally during sleep. Sometimes we wake up -- as in consciously awake -- but our bodies are still in that state of weakness, and it takes a short while for it to catch up. So yeah it just sounds like that mixed in with a bit of fear/slight bit of panic. Edited by Buuberries, Sep 13 2013, 07:34 PM.

Yeah, sleep paralysis is what came up when I did a quick google search, but I couldn't really find anything that made sense of it. |

I know what you went through. It usually happens to me if my body is exhausted but my mind is still very much active. |

Sleep Paralysis and Lucid Dreaming are two different things lol. Lucid Dreaming can lead to Sleep Paralysis if you use the WILD method and you use it in the wrong way. Edited by Yusuke, Sep 15 2013, 11:16 PM.

I've had a similar experience. Its really weird. I had it where I felt like I was awake, but I was asleep and I felt an intense pressure on my body and I tried to move and I couldnt. I began to freak out and there were so many noises that suddenly started to build up and become really intense and then I woke up. |

When you go into R.E.M. sleep your brain paralyses itself to protect it - when it doesn't work you end up with sleep walking etc. So sometimes it doesn't quite work out and you wake up in the wrong phase and it can happen. If it happens regularly i'd probably go talk to your local physician
