The answer is no. You shouldn't always trust your gut feeling because your gut feeling is generally a result of intuition and spontaneous, quick thinking. It can be very useful to listen to your gut instinct in some cases, but it's obviously not going to be correct all the time, especially in cases where your train of thought needs to be more thorough and rigorous. What's your bad feeling about though? |

Usually your gut instinct tries to ward you away from potential danger. But, thinking with your mind is usually the better option since you can think rationally then. |

Ok let me explain. I work part time currently. I have my license and but I depend on my father to drive me back and forth currently but I want full time and I am going to need to have my own car. I am not the most experience driver but I am going to need to drive out there on my own eventually but I cant help but shake this bad feeling I have about this like I am going to be getting into an accident or worse. I am not trying to lack confidence or anything. my work is 20 minutes away. |

Ahh, that's usually how most people fear if they're in a vehicle. It's perfectly natural. Try not to worry about getting in accidents and just think of all the good things that come with getting a car. |

Yeah I don't have much driving experience. I think the thing is that makes me feel most uncomfortable is having to merge into traffic on the highway. I have to if I want to go to work. |

Everyone feels that way, but i think that driving is a neccesity that everyone needs to know these days. Once you get more experienced you wont think about that anymore. I know from experience |

I take it you have your license already I don't think you should stress too much. What I'd recommend doing is driving around your neighborhood first a few times to try to get yourself some more confidence behind the wheel in a place thats familiar to you and that you know very well. You can also ask your dad to go with you so you feel safer having another person in the car with you. And then when the day comes for you to drive to work just remember that if you have your license it's because you're qualified to drive, all it takes is being careful and you'll be fine. Try not to overthink it too much.

I know but it just feels strange to me like I have a bad foreboding. If I did not have to merge into traffic then I would feel better. I know what Im doing its just I have to drive out there 5 times a week. for awhile idk how long I just feel like something might happen. |

No, I think how you're feeling about driving back and forth is perfectly natural; and as TConnor_Demonic pointed out, it's the way any fears or reservations you have about driving are manifesting themselves in this case. And why not? The hard, cold truth is that driving can, at times, be risky - even if you're the best, most experienced driver in the world, so many factors also depend on the common sense of other road users, and there is no way to control what someone else is going to do. It's just how you deal with those unexpected situations that keeps you safe. Does this mean you shouldn't drive? Of course not! I'm an incredibly anxious driver at times - but the thing to remember is, the more you let the anxiety get to you, the less safe you'll be on the road. Take some time to relax before you get behind the wheel; just sit there for a few minutes, prepare yourself, consider the fact that you are a capable driver, you can do this, just stay alert, and make sure you're doing everything you can to avoid tricky situations. =) But I definitely know how you feel, especially on the merging with traffic part - I hate it! But these things will come with time. And the more you drive, the calmer you'll be about it. =) |

I used to drive to university every day for god knows how many years. My university is in the middle of the most chaotic place in my city, the traffic there is absurd and people are always angry and doing stupid things. Yet I never had ONE accident. If I can do it, you can too
