I have really bad muscle spasms in my legs when I first wake up.Does anybody know what causes them or better yet, stop them? I would really like to avoid any kind of medication. Thank you. |

I am prescribed various benzodiazepines (still trying them out to find the best) for my muscle spasms and twitching. Unfortunately, my muscle spasms and twitching is quite bad and is directly related to my anxiety problems. I may have a neurological disorder and am currently undergoing a lot of tests to figure out the problem. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what can prevent them other than medication. Benzodiazepines are very addicting but are great as a GABA agonist to help with anxiety, panic, and involuntary muscle spasms. If these spasms start to get worst, get to a doctor right away. I made the mistake of not doing that and now may be afflicted with a rare neurological disorder. Healthy young adult males usually don't have involuntary spasms and twitching problems. |

I've been to the doctors but they say nothing is wrong with me.They proscribed me medicine but all it did was make the spasms worse, and on top of that gave me a really bad rage streak. I'm tired of waking up in the morning knowing that if I dare stretch I'll have another painful spasm.... |

What did they prescribe you specifically? Do you still have the bottle and the dosage? In any case, if you push enough and come off as being restless or anxious, they will probably be more than willing to throw you a low-medium dosage of Lorazepam or Ativan. I take Clonazepam. Not only are they great for anxiety but great for involuntary muscle spasms as well. My doctor doesn't want me on the s*** forever but after extensive research it is doable and in my dad's case, necessary. |

I don't remember the name of the medicine that I was proscribed, all I remember is I had too take it every 6 hours.
I thought it was dehydration to, but symptoms didn't improve after I started drinking more fluids. |

Well I know that can happen if you overuse your muscles. Maybe even overstretch them a bit. Could that be the case? |

You could be right about that. I have to walk 5 and a half miles to the nearest bus stop. But shouldn't my legs have gotten used to the walking by now? |

Depends entirely on how your body works I think. How long have you been doing that for? |

Hmm, I wouldn't know then. Tim's good at this kind of stuff though, you should ask him. |
