Brofist, when was the precedent set that characters have to state that someone else has surpassed them or if they surpassed another character.

Vegeta doesn't need to say "I have surpassed you when you were a kid" to show that he is stronger than CG Gohan. He was remarking that was Gohan slacking from his training.

By the mystery in Vegeta's tone, he is wondering how weak Gohan had gotten; knowing Gohan had gotten weaker was already established.

Vegeta notes that Gohan has been slacking off and there had been a large gap between them before. He then specifically notes that since he's been training and Gohan hasn't, is there still a gap between them. Vegeta knows what Cell Games Gohan's level is, if he surpassed it, he'd have stated it as such.

CG Gohan or Buu Saga Gohan?

However, Vegeta knew that Gohan's rage made him stronger, but I believe his statement about him and Goku was based primarily on Gohan without rage, and with his lapse in fighting instinct, which was Vegeta's biggest gripe when he watches Gohan fight Dabra.

SSj2 Goku>>>SSj2 Vegeta>SSj2 Gohan (Boo Era)
