But seriously I couldn't care less about it. If she wants to be crazy, let her be. It doesn't matter.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

She still looks like a little kid almost and people who can't get her image out of their head of her as a kid are disgusted. Like the kid from Home Alone. He turned into a multiple DUI cokehead, if I remember correctly.

She can do what she wants.... but I'm thinking maybe one day she'll regret what she's done.

One thing I'd like to point out is that unlike celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes, Miley Cyrus doesn't seem to be emotionally unstable or out of control. At all. The way she's presenting herself seems very calculated and a conscious effort to be memorable, which at the end of the day has been working wonderfully for her since we're talking about her right now instead of talking about any other VMA artist. What she's been doing is, in my opinion, a tasteless, tacky, cheap way of getting her name out there on the media and as lame as that is to me, I'm really nobody to say that she can't or shouldn't do it. I also sense a bit of a "I'm going to do this to piss people off just because I can" attitude from her, which makes her extremely annoying to me, but again, she's in her right to do it.
It's not much different from when Madonna decided to kiss Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during a performance for shock value. One could argue she was trying to defend social equality, but it really was nothing more than a marketing move to get the press talking about that moment and ultimately give them a solid boost in sales. It's definitely a side of entertainment --at least mass entertainment-- that I'm always a bit iffy about. I can understand it, but I can't always defend it. And at this point, Miley Cyrus is pretty much the female equivalent of Justin Bieber to me, which makes her as interesting, credible, attractive and likeable as erm, a cockroach.

This actually sums it up quite nicely, but as a mod I have to tell you to remember to develop your thoughts and opinions a bit more if you're gonna post. :p

This is exactly what I think about the situation. We get so caught up in our reaction ourselves and babbling to one another about it. If you put yourself in her shoes or actually critically think and analyze all of the conditions, it is very calculated. Our lack of empathy is what causes this massive public backlash. We don't try to interact with the situation or to really analyze it, only to react to it. With Facebook being literally under five seconds away from you at any given moment, which essentially serves as a giant hive mind and the human equivalent of a bees' nest, we tend to all buzz at once rather easily :p

The reaction was what she wanted. It didn't need to be positive. It didn't need to be negative. It just needed to be big. And of course it worked, it always does. It sure is great being human :p

The fact that you "support" her, even though admit that it was inappropriate boggles my mind, and is, IMO, what is wrong with America.

Why the f*** would you support it if it wasn't appropriate? In what world does that make sense? If it's not appropriate, what's that mean?

As long as it isn't illegal, people should be able to do whatever they want whether I or anyone else thinks it's appropriate or not.

Who exactly are you referencing? What I think doesn't matter, lol. I support her right to do it. She can do whatever she wants within the boundaries of the law. Why she did it is also very important though. Intent, motivations. I just think we tend to be superficial or 2D when reacting to things like this.

In my most recent post I never even used the word support. I have no idea if I did on a previous page, but, like I said, it doesn't matter what I think or don't think anyways about the act itself.

Eh, the fact that she has to do somethin' like this in order to stay relevant speaks volumes about where she is now. This isn't unique to this particular case, it applies to many people in the entertainment industry.

People should just accept the fact that they wont be relevant forever. Yet, instead of letting a career reach its natural end, they forcibly extend it.

I think there's a big difference between not liking it and being full-on against it. What she did is really nothing new to the music scene, it's been done time and time again. I think it's annoying as hell, but she's still in her right to do it as it's obviously her body and her image/brand that is being exposed, not yours or anyone else's. The impact it may or may not have on young kids/teens is highly debatable as imo that's more of a parenting issue than anything else. If young girls look up to her and start acting in a similar fashion that's the parents/people responsible for their education fault.
She's using her sexuality to make an impact and sell her music = one of the oldest tricks ever in business. I wish she was a lot more subtle and tasteful about it, and I don't necessarily support it either, but she's still in her full right to do it if she wants to and that's just the bottom line here.

She knows no other way of living. People cling to familiarity. It happens all the time to people who come into wealth. Lottery winners, celebrities, American football players and sports figures in general. Politicians. It's easy to be poor, hard to be rich.

I wonder how much revenue she ended up generating just for grinding on a guy on TV. And the TV networks go ahead and air the starving African children commercials and how if you donate six cents ten kids won't have a cleft lip. That's all well and good but all this shows is it's not about "right", it's about money. It's not so much the hypocrisy or the lack of tact, but, just how often it goes unnoticed.

What Strawberry said.
Just because I personally think her performance was stupid and embarrassing doesn't mean I think she should be banished from the music/pop industry, she's just another talentless artist desperate to stay in the spotlight. I don't find anything she did directly offensive.

her performance was trashy, not for the over sexualized aspect of it, but simply for the lack of effort involved. her performance consisted almost exclusively of grabbing her crotch (which isn't even a sexy move, no matter who does it) and trying to twerk with no a***. no real choreography at all. at least she actually sang her song, unlike most of the other performers, who mostly just let the music play while they danced. but that's about as much credit as she gets for effort.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.
