If you want my opinion on the matter (and maybe no one does but I'll say it anyway cause I'm crazy like that) Melee is beautiful because it's played outside of the boundaries of the game itself. It's a game that keeps reinventing itself, with new techs and gamestyles popping up. Buuut if you don't want to play with tech you can go look up some Borp videos, guy's a mid level player who doesn't even wavedash lol. 100% on hard reads. Although he does use Sheik...

honestly, where is the logic in this? you're getting annoyed over a guy who's put in 30+ hours into something to get better at it. if you end up beating someone, it's 99% because you have more experience and practice at the game than they did. it's fun if you want to win, but you can't accept when other people want to do the same against you...?

if you don't want to spend time practicing a game, then by all means don't. just don't complain when someone who wanted to be able to thrash casual players took the time to learn specific things and rips you a new a*****. this applies to real life, or are you also the type of person who complains when someone beats you in a sport because they spent way more time conditioning their body and doing sport-specific training?
When like 90% of the people you're matched against might as well be Gods and the remaining 10% are people who just got the game or are only average at it it's just not fun. It's not an extreme sport...

Like in an FPS game or any kind of game with a ranking system if you go in to an unranked server and instantly get mauled by level 9 million people with the best guns, magic or whatever having no possible way to win it's a s*** experience, same deal.

It's a children's game at it's core is it not? I mean everyone can play it, it's generally aimed at kids but pretty much everyone who can goes MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE on everyone even though it could be some 6 year old trying to have fun.
So the competitive scene kind of ruins it for people who just want to have fun because they can't when practically every match has them against some elite 30 year old player who no-lifed the s*** out of it for days to wreck the casuals, with their MLG skills.

And it's sad that there's no way to fix that if they added some kind of competitive mode people would just play the casual modes with their elite skill to be a*****, it's a lighthearted game.

It's a playstyle that just doesn't belong in children's games which happens to encompass like 99% of all Nintendo's games.
It'd be like letting an athlete in to a schools sports day with 10 year old kids, just shouldn't happen.

EDIT also what's wrong with wanting to win? Who wants to lose?
There's a big difference between wanting to win and being ridiculously determined to never lose ever that you spend all your time playing a kids game so you can beat everyone at it to feel like you're great.

There is nothing stopping Lebron James from turning up at some random court and whooping a whole bunch of a** (at BBall >_>).

The reasons he doesn't is because he is busy... it does nothing to progress his goals... and he's possibly NOT an a**.

So, you give the people who want to be the very best... like no one ever was... something else to do... and hope there aren't too many a**** out there.

...Smash Brothers is a kids game and Pokémon might as well be not it's fairly obvious most of the fanbase are young adults.

What's so bad about wanting there to be some games kids can play online or people can play casually without having to be complete freaks about it?

I never said all games should appeal to adults and require a ton of skill, time and experience did I? Lol all you want.

Last time I checked Smash Bros was a game for everyone.

This mark right here means it's playable for everyone from 10 years and up.

So don't come here and call it a kids game.

Right, that explains everything. You guys are 8 yr olds, yes? So that gives youthe right to complain about the way other people play because they beat you, yet get defensive when you're told to suck it up and quit complaining just because you like to win but cant handle losing.

I'm on the train atm -- ppl are staring at me now for laughing

right, yet you keep on saying that it's "intended" to be played a certain way -- i.e., your way. aka youre being a hypocrite.

Intended ≠ Mandatory. Your twisting what i'm saying to suit your agenda. I never said it had to be played like that, all I was saying was that it was intended for the most part otherwise the game wouldn't have items let alone have them on as the default setting once playing the game for the first time.

I see you love to use this tactic to your advantage, quite pitiful actually that you have to resort to using this to keep your argument going. All I said was that L-Cancelling was the most practical for Smashers alike due to it's simplicity to learn VS other techniques in the game as well as stating it was in my opinion when you decided to heavily downplay what I said to once again suit what your saying.

calling bs since you complain about competitive smash so much.

I really couldn't care less if you believe me or not.

i said it applies to life. i used sports as an example. you guys are basically whining over people beating your a*** because they put in the effort to get better at something. are you going to complain in a class debate because the guy youre debating against decided to spend all week studying and you didn't? are you going to complain when you have a career down because someone else beat you to a promotion for putting in more effort in their work? same thing applies to this -- if you want to be good at something, then practice. you don't have to, but don't freaking complain about the other person just because theyre better than you.

so does his opponent. is that too complex to understand or something? now just because his opponent happens to be a, quote, "Japanese dude who's sunk 30+ hours in to perfecting combos with one character", he's saying it's annoying and doesn't like it when people "take the game too seriously". yet he's out to win himself?????? where is the sense in that???? if steve had beaten someone because he was more experienced, that'd be fine for him, right? because he won? yet when it's someone else it's "annoying" and you call them out for putting in time to get better.

it's like you guys expect a game where you're straight up fighting against someone to not get competitive. if it's a competitive game, then you can expect to come up against people who'll beat you without trying. if you want to stay relevant, then you practice yourself. if you don't want to put in the time and effort, and in no way i'm saying you should so dont even try to twist my words, then there's no problem with that either. just dont go crying about it when you lose. it's the same with anything in life. someone who spends more time on something will usually be better especially if it's a competition that involves motor skills. muscle memory, being able to think ahead and predicting your opponent, and all that.

I never even talked about the specifics of that and you took it upon yourself to label me as a whiner. IDK what to say now because your going about with making false accusations and just blatantly being disrespectful.

Yep, that about seals the deal here. You want to resort to insulting others now so i'm not going to waste my time with you anymore.

fyi i sure as hell ain't the only one thinking this. i've spoken to at least a few people on this forum who agree with me, and i've even linked the thread to friends who aren't signed up to this forum, and they all think you guys are being babies. literally all you have done is complain about the way other people play the game. one of them wanted me to show you this link: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/475384/miyamoto-explains-nintendos-renewed-passion-for-the-core/

i've edited out half of my damn post just for you since you're being so damn sensitive. omg buuberries editing out his s***? ye. i actually like you as a person so i'm cutting this s*** in half -- i just think your attitude about this whole thing is stupid. if you think that me laughing at nonsense is insulting, then i don't know what to tell you, but good luck if you're like that in all aspects of your life. literally all i have done is call you out on your misinformation/lack of knowledge. if you can't take your opinion being challenged then you're probably on the wrong forum.

So don't come here and call it a kids game.
A game for everyone not just adults who want to demolish everyone mercilessly like it's an extreme sport.

If I ever I played Brawl and was obviously against a child or someone inexperienced I'd turn it down a notch or two so they have a chance.
Not totally wreck them and post a video of me trashing a n00b in EPIC fashion.

It's blatantly obvious Nintendo is mostly aimed at children and always have been maybe that's why so few of their flagship series have competitive multiplayer?
Because adults just ruin it for kids like as I said letting an athlete take part in school sports day when they're so obviously going to win every event.

What's so wrong about not wanting to master every combo and whatnot just to have fun playing a game? I don't get what you're problem is Buuberries you only seem to care about what way you want to play the game, because nobody else child or not matters right? Awesome.

DMC and DMC4 have been announced for new gen...that's fairly random.
Not looked it up but I hope that's not Ninja Theory's "news"they had coming because I want some DMC2 talk >.>
I guess there's hope for the series if they're remastering it, I'm puzzled as to why 4 would get done too though it's story is done hence the reboot.

Guess I'll probably get them DMC was fun to 100% and DMC4 didn't have trophies but I completed Dante Must Die mode...turbo mode sounds nuts.

I don't understand why you're so upset that some people play competetively online, Steve. Nothing is standing in your way of getting pro yourself, unless you're completely inept at the game. Practice makes perfect, so get to it. Not the pros' fault that you're not at their level.

Well you can't blame someone for wanting to be good because you're yourself saying that you want to win. They also want to win, and they have the time to practice the game and the skills to be great.

now it really doesn't make sense.

it went from "i want to win but i find it annoying when i'm up against people who put in time to practice" to "go easy on kids"

i can't tell if you're calling yourself a kid or not.

Is there not a ranked system in this game that helps keep people competing against people of similar skill level/ability? (actual question... I don't own and have never played any SSB games)
