It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I booted up Medieval 2: Total War again. Playing as Hungary at the moment and doing pretty well (only on medium difficulty though and I sim battles). Expanded my empire to 5 provinces (was 6, but the Holy Roman Empire took one) and then moved on the Byzantines. I took Constantinople and Nicae, so have a nice foothold there, and I have a large army marching on Thessalonica that should win there.

There was also a crusade called against Cairo and I sent an army along. Our close proximity to the area meant we arrived first and I took Cairo (and then Alexandria for kicks). So another nice stronghold there (especially if I can muster a big enough force to take Gaza, which is a castle). That's the first time I've ever completed a crusade (one of the only times I've joined one, actually).

My plans are to hopefully take Gaza (if not, send another army to help out), finish off the Byzantines, and then launch a two-pronged attack on the Turks and Egyptians. And I haven't forgotten about those HRE bastards. We're technically still at war, but there's been an uneasy peace for a long time. Make no bones about it though, we will avenge the loss of Prague.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I'm yet to play Total War: Warhammer.

I'm kind of scared too because I tried the demo's for a few Total War games and they were awful on my TV, could barely see anything that was going on...

And I can't refund it because I've had it a long time.

I think that's kinda s*** really, wanted to refund it since the second game is coming out soon anyway and I was going to try that...why does how long I've had it matter when it's literally never been booted up? Bleh.

Sucks not having decent funding need a computer desk and a monitor, for gaming my PC is pretty much a paperweight.

Started up a new game as the English. Tried doing a challenge where I only use auto battle but I had to give up on that idea trying to take Ireland from the Scots. Still going to continue the challenge from here on out. Should be a lot easier now that I have the whole British Isles and northern France.

Oh yeah and I turned off the fog of war with a console command. Makes the game take way longer but it's really fascinating watching the computer make all its moves.

Yeah, I like to do that occasionally. Like you said, prolongs the game, but it's interesting seeing the world unfold.

So figured I'd update again since I just reached turn 100. The Byzantines have been all but crushed. I took all of their settlements bar one tiny one up on the Russian border. It's quite a distance from my nearest castle, so I can't be bothered sending an army all the way up there. I may send a diplomat up there and attempt to make them a vassal, although I've never succeeded in that before.

So with the threat of the Byzantines being removed, it was the Turks who took their spot when a jihad was called against Cairo. They've sent 4 or 5 fully stacked armies against the stronghold, but we've resisted every assault (Cairo is headed by our now King who spearheaded the attack on the Middle East). In retaliation we took their capital and another province, as well as expanding our empire in the East to 7 settlements.

We're well on our way to connecting up our two empires, with only one Turkish territory separating them. When we've achieved that, we should be able to press further north, eradicate the Turks and then move on the Russians. That would see us link up with the Northern-most part of our empire and give us an aesthetically pleasing block of territories sweeping East from Budapest to the furthest boundaries of the world map.

A last note. The Holy Roman Empire, first of our many foes, have actually been extremely quiet. A crusade was called on Toulouse and we both sent armies to take the castle. They won the race by a hair, however I took the opportunity to reroute the crusading army back to Bologna, where they met up with a second large army. The two forces docked and we now have a strong force ready to deal heavy blows to the HRE, with a third army in the wings.

I enjoy that there's a unit in those games that just throws heads at people.

It would be good if it was realistic to win the whole game with only those guys

I've saw that someone tried to do a peasant only challenge. Didn't watch it so I have no idea how far they got.

A YouTuber I'm watching play Medieval 2 had a random group of peasants attain some pretty darn ridiculous victories against generals and stuff so I reckon that might be somewhat doable...just cavalry would be doom incarnate.

I think after I finish Shadow of Mordor I'll actually go back and finish the new Doom. Witcher 3 can go on the backburner.

If anyone doesn't know and doesn't have it, Just Cause 3 is free this month with PS+. Currently downloading it.

Was interested when it came out but not enough to buy it at full price. Looks good for some stupid fun.
I look forward to spending 100 hours putting those rocket things on random civilians.

Wow, peasant only would be hard. I might seek that out just to see how well they fared. Gonna post another update just because I'm enjoying doing them:

We destroyed many a faction since the last update. First up was the Byzantine stragglers. They effectively signed their own death warrant by launching an attack on Nicae (which was pitiful by most standards). I swiftly sent a force to their two remaining territories and found that they were in a miserable state. Both territories were taken with little effort and the Byzantines were no more.

Next up was the Holy War we waged in the name of the newly Hungarian Pope. The Turks proved to be the most difficult of our conquests. We underwent a lengthy campaign, even taking a couple losses (although no settlements were lost), but we eventually prevailed and put the last of the Turks to the sword. Egypt failed to put up much of a resistance. We took Damascus, which I thought to be their only remaining settlement, and after a quick search we found and took their last city and the Egyptians and their storied history were no more. Lastly, we sent a fleet of ships holding three strong armies to the Iberian Peninsula and in one foul swoop destroyed the Moorish. It wasn't long after that the Hungarian Pope passed on, perhaps content with the work of his people.

That leaves us with two remaining conflicts. The Russians to the north and east are proving troublesome. There was a particularly gruelling set of battles where our own city of Iasi survived 4 consecutive sieges. The city and it's inhabitants fought valiantly, fending off each siege without any time for reinforcements, finally falling to a fifth attack. In retaliation I sent a group of armies to retake Iasi and then move on into Russian territory. We've had successes, but we've also suffered multiple losses, and the war rages on.

The uneasy peace between us and the Holy Roman Empire has been broken by multiple conflicts. We marched a massive force westwards into HRE territory, attacking and taking many settlements including the long overdue avenging of Prague. With three castles deep in the heart of Europe, we are positioned well to destroy the HRE and end this seemingly eternal war.

OOC, I'm probably going to stop soon. I have 43 settlements including Damascus, and 2 more gives me the win (which I've never done before). I've played it for hours straight today and yesterday, which I don't like. Leaves my eyes feeling fuzzy and my body aching from being in the same position. I'll be happy to have finished a Long campaign for the first time.

Edit: Logged back on for a quick couple turns and took the 2 settlements needed for the win. I was still technically at war with France after the crusade called against them many years ago. I had attempted to negotiate a ceasefire to narrow my pool of enemies, but they declined multiple times, so to punish them I took Marseille. For the remaining settlement, I had all the good intentions in the world with numbers surrounding a HRE and a Russian settlement. However, they reinforced just enough that a win wasn't a formality in either case, and two of my settlements were besieged (including one by the new Pope after the Hungarian one died).

And there sat a nearly empty Polish castle. Poland, our only allies, the deal struck when our empire was in it's infancy and we had only two settlements. They never once reneged on the deal and to reward them for their loyalty....I took their castle. To top it all off, it was their capital and the King was inside. Ah well. No friends in war.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Just got the platinum trophy for Shadow of Mordor.

Fun game but got a bit boring towards the end of the run, I put about 34 hours in to it though so that's not bad for the £7 or so I spent on it.
Can't really be bothered with the DLC.

I know it isn't but to me it feels like the first game of a developer, like they had good ideas but weren't quite there yet. Hopefully Shadow of War has a bit more varied content, after a while you're just kinda doing the same thing again and again.
6 out of 10 for me I'd say.

Think I might play some PC games soon if reinstalling Windows 10 fixes current computer issues. The Long Dark appears to have been released in full so fairly interested in going back to that.

Bought AC Unity yesterday. Played a little bit into it so far. I've heard it's probably one of the worst AC games, but it was cheap and the only one I haven't played.

Dude, Assassins are clearly magic you just don't get it!

I remember getting the old soldier multiplying glitch in...I forget if it was AC1 or AC2.
That was hilarious. Thankfully didn't crash my game.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are still the glitch kings and God dammit just mentioning them makes me want to go play 3.

I remember in one of my first playthroughs I managed to end up at the Old Olney place by wandering randomly, at pretty low level.
Old Olney being a place full of Deathclaws...

One of them seen me and that was basically it, dead.
But then it randomly flew up in to the air and fell down again to take some damage.

Was extremely confused then it happened again and I was like "s***, RUN b***, RUUUN"
Second time it landed it died though :D

Same thing has happened a few times, maybe aliens don't like Deathclaws.
