Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Okay wow the first couple of bosses in Nioh were okay, not too difficult and not too easy...

But the third, lordy. Harder than most Dark Souls ones I've tried easy.

She flies about, does various spinning attacks really quickly, constantly comes after you, if you get away she fires a shockwave thing at you...which paralyzes you.
Most of her moves add to your paralysis too, so you get stuck and then she comes and attacks more, often grabbing you and using tentacle s*** to attack your face.

Crazy jump in difficulty unless I'm just tired. Had to throw crap tons of bombs, shurikens and whatnot at her.
I'm a ninja, ninja's throw stuff, totally not a b*** move.

Been playing WoW again. Got to level 40 with a dwarf I'm playing tonight. 40 levels in 3 sittings ain't so bad, though it's obviously gonna be more tedious to level up from here. I expect level 60 by sunday.

Also been playing A Link to the Past randomizers, learning the game in and out this way. Speedrunning the game eventually too.

Nioh is definitely going to be in my top 10 this year.

Easily the best Souls-like game, has the greatest balance between difficulty and fun. The others I've played were just pure annoying at times and very clunky, Nioh is well put together.
I've not truly been frustrated by it once yet because every failing has been completely my own not me miraculously sliding off a ledge as if my characters shoes are slick with butter...

The tension it builds during fights is great too, you have to take the fight to the enemy. Instead of running around in circles waiting for an opening in attack patterns you have to run at them while on the offence and while doing your best to dodge.

It's such a shame it's getting hated on for being a "Souls clone" when it's doing the style so well.
I don't get that complaint, every shooter is a clone of the first shooter but that doesn't mean none of them have improved on the formula and been great games.

Really the only negative is that you can only experience it on PS4 but as far as I'm concerned it's worth it because both Bloodborne and Nioh have been much more polished products due to that.

So what are people's thoughts on RE7 here, so far?

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I didn't like it. Felt too clunky.

I think it looks kinda meh.

Heavily scripted jumpscares, obvious puzzles, short and uninteresting story, awful FOV, good gunplay and combat overall.

The combat is all I think they done good really, better than average at least. First person combat that isn't just 100% guns is hard to do in that sort of a game and they did it without making it Call of Duty.

Watched a playthrough of it and not once did I think "Didn't expect that!" which kinda sucks for a horror game, there's basically only jumpscares and not being able to see properly, which leads to "Oh crap something is right next to me!" moments.

I just don't get it, yeah it's better than 6 but...virtually any game is better than 6, hardly makes 7 a masterpiece by default.

It is a step in the right direction for sure though and looks great to play in VR if you have it. Just don't see how it's GOTY at all like many have said.
Hoping a really good horror game comes out this year that makes people think twice about what actually counts as horror, Outlast 2 hopefully...it is a sequel though so who knows how well that's gonna go.

Resident Evil 7 while much improved and a decent refresh for the series, just feels kind of shallow to me.

I honestly rank it as one of the top games in the series (REmake > RE2 > RE:CV >=< RE7 > RE4 > RE3 > RE5 > RE0 > RE6)

It actually brings the classic feel of resident evil back in a modern way. And Steve, I'll just say, watching it instead of playing doesn't do the game justice. When you're actually playing it (especially with even a regular headset turned up) you feel a sense of uneasiness due to the dread in the atmosphere. You hear the slightest noise, and that constantly keeps you on your toes. It's just overall creepy and unsettling, and that's what I love about it

Nah I know it wouldn't get me at all, the occasional jump scare maybe but nothing about the atmosphere seems particularly creepy to me.

It's a weird house filled with rotten food and weird fleshy looking stuff, it's hard to take any of it seriously as horror when it's so whacky. The scripted nature of most of it takes away from it too.

Basically the only jump scare that would be effective is the first one, like when you run away from a family member and they teleport to grab you despite you knowing they were nowhere near you...from then on you know you're going to be subjected to that and it takes all the fear out of it besides the initial "Oh!" of a jump.

It's not the worst game in the world or anything but I just don't see why it deserves high praise for going for really cheap frights.
The setting has nothing on the likes of Silent Hill for being creepy and the enemies are kinda bland too, only the mother is a bit messed up compared to other things in the series.
There's dozens of indie horror games out there that do horror right but this will be rated above them just because it's a AAA title, it could be the least scary horror ever and still get more attention.

Like I said, it's when you're playing it with a quality headset (or Vr, whichever) and you hear the little things that makes the atmosphere unsettling. You also keep in mind ammo conservation (mainly on the madhouse difficulty, where you barely come across ammo unless it's right before a boss fight)

Yeah I think that's the single biggest problem with the game as a whole, it's a VR game.

Easily the best and probably the only VR game right now that's really much of a game but it kinda falls flat outside of VR.

It's a great push forward for decent VR games though, most of them so far are just short "experience" kind of games that are just walking simulators for the most part...that still cost like £15...

Still not sure if I want to get VR this year, will definitely get PS VR if anything. It might be of the lowest quality but it's likely going to get the greatest support.
Can't wait to get some good Star Wars games out of it...

I just hope that they make new controllers for it, it was a smart idea to use the Move instead of making a whole new thing but something with analog sticks like the Wii's Nunchuck would be handy instead of having to teleport around.

RE7 is phenomenal, definitely one of the top games for me.

REmake > Code Veronica > RE7 > RE2 >RE4 ~ RE:0 > RE3 > RE5 > RE6

The atmosphere is great, definitely at the start. The later parts aren't as atmospheric, but that's par for the course for old-style RE games, so it was a welcome treat.

------

Dragon Ball Fusions comes out in Europe on Friday, and apparently my copy may be coming today. Super hyped, I've finished Xenoverse 2 and don't feel like going through it again right now, so this'll be a nice treat.

Haven't got a Dragon Ball game in forever...

I hope something like Attack of the Saiyans comes out, the more RPG style was great I thought. Button bashy battling gets tiresome, especially if you can't be bothered becoming some kind of pro at it.

I wonder if DBO will ever happen again on a larger scale, that would be fantastic. Surely it's attainable now, it'd fit right in with PlayStation if nothing else there's a few good MMO's that do well.

Guess it's still not quite as madly popular in the west as the likes of Final Fantasy or Elder Scrolls but it could probably still do decent.

It's been announced a lot lately here aswell.

Not sure what to think of Fusions. Fusing characters just doesn't seem all that fun, unless you get new abilities or combinations of abilities out of the fusions?

I think the problem has been the freedom you get, it's kinda boring when you can make your own nonsense OP character in a game. It's good to have set characters with restrictions you have to work around instead of being able to build the ultimate being.

You end up just doing the same thing over and over, unless you purposefully make a really weak character to add to the challenge.

The "What If" characters in these games were always more appealing to me than something I can create. SSj3 Vegeta in Raging Blast was awesome.
