There are some theories and a fair number of studies that examine birth order and intelligence, personality traits, and so on, but has anyone else noticed that later-borns tend to be better-looking than their eldest sibling? I actually can't think of any family I know -- friends, family, acquaintances -- where this isn't the case lopl. I'm the eldest and I'm not as good-looking as my sisters. this is just based on my own observations and nothing else. |

My older brother is better looking than me in my opinion. He's more intelligent than me too. My dad's older siblings are better looking and smarter than him too. I think with intelligence it's just that younger siblings will try to compete with their older siblings more, rather than actually being smarter. So they will apply themselves where the older child didn't. In my case I saw my brother give up on his A levels and I decided that I would try to beat him by finishing them. The same thing pushed me to try and do better at GCSE than him too. He's more intelligent but I apply myself more. |

oh with intelligence research a lot of it leans more toward the eldest being more intelligent, but yea i just tell people working hard > intelligence any day since im the epitome of underachiever. i have the same thread on another forum and i think youre only one of three people who've said your older sibling's better looking |

So what your saying is...because I'm the oldest, I am the best  Jk. Although yeah with my sister. Intelligence seems oddly relative to looks doesn't it both good looks and intelligence are so rare, it's weird. Perhaps as more kids are conceived the magical intelligence gene(scientific term) get's...for lack of a better word, diluted and to make up for that the consequent children are given better looks. Or maybe the magical intelligence gene is directly what makes people bad looking... Whatever, biology makes us smart and science will make us sexy. The youngest siblings do seem to have a more refined look about them though maybe it takes the vagina a couple of tries to get it right. |

I'm definitely more nerdy and more apt to learn than my older sister (first born), but she's more physically attractive than me.

I'm the 4th of 5 siblings, I think the first born is the most good looking and the second one's the smartest. (I'm the coolest tho, by far) |

Oldest of three, and I like to think of myself as the 'failed experiment' lol. I'll openly admit that I consider myself to be less attractive than my brother and sister, although with my sister, it's more difficult to tell because we both look similar and she's only 12, so there's not really much to comment on. I just think they've been more fortunate in certain aspects of their appearance. But then, I also think that everyone has their 'things's that they get hung up on - I have too many to list, for my brother, it's his platinum blonde beard, and my sister's just hit that age where 'everything is wrong and looks awful on [her]' (her words, not mine). In terms of intelligence, on paper, at least, I ... admittedly am somewhat ahead of them. No street smarts whatsoever of course, I'm socially awkward as hell, and actually have very little in common with either of them. I often comment that my brother and his friends are the people who would have made my life hell at school. xD so I think the 'intelligence' (albeit it's not across the board - there are things I excel at, and things I don't) is actually a form of compensating for what I lack - which is a hell of a lot, come to think of it ... The competition is still present, though. My brother's determined to pass his driving test before I do (shameful, 21 and still can't drive - I know), and my sister ... well, she just ... plays LittleBigPlanet all day or spends most of her time on Instagram, so I'unno. |

I'm not sure there is any real truth to that, a lot of it will be down to genetics, I don't think they are suddenly going to change depending on the order of birth, there are also factors of upbringing as well. You will see differences between people from different generations but that's mostly due to environmental factors more than anything. And when it comes to attractiveness, I don't think people generally judge themselves fairly, that and comparing a male to a female in terms of attractiveness is not going to work out, mostly because of physical features people pick up on when looking. |

I wouldn't be able to tell between me and my younger sister, since we're of a different gender it's hard to judge. I think I look a helluva lot more gaunt than she does though. Maybe it's because of the stress from being oldest... |

middle child best looking tallest intelligence between the three is fairly close but to be fair i have two sisters and so height is not even close seeing as im about a foot taller then each so the only thing i got is looking a bit better then them, above avg looks i would say .....if im being generous lol |

No not really.... (at opening post) However it wouldn't be that surprising if younger siblings seem to be better wired to achieve, since they've been able to watch the older siblings fail/succeed (assuming the siblings are together), and the parents will maybe not f up as much with them, since they'll learn from the f ups made with the older children (example- my mum wasn't allowed to go to uni, next daughter was allowed to go in a neighbouring town (or same city, not sure), next daughter was allowed to go in a town a bit further, and next one went a good few hours away, so basically the youngest one was the one who was allowed to do things in the best way....I know that's just one example and obviously I'm not saying you can assume it proves how it is for everyone, but yeh it's an example). |
