How and when did you start watching DBZ?

I started watching DBZ when Toonami ran the Saiyan through Namek sagas with the Ocean dub back in the late 90's I think, the 4:30-5:30 timeslot. They'd run two episodes back to back, and when they reached the beginning of Freeza, they'd start over with the Saiyan saga.

After watching that for about a year I think, they randomly switched to the Funimation dub and continued through the Freeza saga with the new voice cast. After a while, they took DBZ out of the timeslot, and I switched to buying the VHS tapes from Funi. Good times.

Back in 2000, I believe. I was 8, and I just remember that I was pretty ill that night, so I got up and my dad was watching the re-run of that day's episode on Toonami. Naturally, I started watching it, too, and I remember thinking 'hey, I really, really like this!' - the funniest thing was, I'd been aware of DBZ for a short while before this, but never gave it a chance, which is unimaginable to me, now! But hey, I was 8.

I remember the episode I was watching, too. 'Our Hero Awakens', in the Imperfect Cell saga - specifically the part when Chi-Chi discovers that Goku has recovered. I'm sure they must have played the Imperfect, and eventually the Perfect Cell sagas a LOT back then, until we eventually got the Cell Games, because I remember never actually getting to see the Saiyan, Namek, Ginyu or Freeza sagas until they ran all the episodes on select weekends, which I have a feeling was more like 2001 (I was recording the Perfect Cell saga on VHS around Christmas) ... I don't know. It's funny. I can remember the EXACT episode, and what was happening at the time, but after that, I just remember, I was DESPERATE to see everything prior to the Cell sagas, because by then, I was aware that the sagas existed and wanted to know what happened during them!!
Oh, look. Another personal blog about writing. Whatever.

Mine is kinda weird.
I watched DBZ at a friend's place who had been talking about it and his obsession for a long time, but didn't really find any interest in it.
Probably due to it was just the first episode which isn't really exciting and it being Greek dubs which were cheesy. Plus, I had other interests and didn't want to put something in the way, I was stubborn.
But, then my birthday came, and the same friend bought me Budokai 3 as a gift which I instantly tried out and ''fell in love'' with the characters, their design, the martial arts, fighting, action, epicness, story. . . Everything. I thanked him a bunch for the awesome gift he gave me. That was when I was about 10.
After that, I gave DBZ anime a chance and watched it and up till I was 13 I was obsessed with it.
In the beginning of when I became 14 I started to have the feeling that DBZ anime had got kinda old for me and got bored.
A year before that (at 13) when I was in my hometown Melbourne / Australia for holidays I found a DBZ BOOK! I was like, WTF, a book?? this must be the original comic book!!
I started to like the manga a lot and kept buying more from my savings and it felt awesome to read them. I still went with anime though as No 1.
After I felt like the anime got old for me I started to really get into the manga and to this day (15 now lol) I still love it. The manga will not get old for me like the anime did. Well, I hope not!

I am Always Right... Unless When I'm Wrong

My aunt introduced me to the Spanish dub of DBZ when I was just a kid. My cousin introduced me to the Eng dub (original Funi) of DBZ around the same age. I learned about the manga right around the release of DBZ Kai.

I would have been about 7 or 8 I think, but I didn't really like it that much. It wasn't until a few years ago when I watched the entire thing that my interest grew.

My local Spanish channel used to show DBZ completely uncut and with all the original music, I don't remember the year, but I believe it was around 2000. After that I started collecting the manga which Viz used to release in a similar format as American comics, with three chapters being collected in each issue along with the paper back collections.

I started watching it on Cartoon Network UK either in 1999 or 2000 before our Toonami block even existed. I remember seeing bits and pieces of the old Ocean dubbed episodes like Goku vs Nappa and the episode were Bulma meets Frieza's henchmen. I think I got fully addicted to it once the Funimation dub was airing and Vegeta got killed by Frieza. I would excitedly watch it every day after school and watched the whole Goku vs Frieza battle. Goku turning Super Saiyan was the highpoint of my childhood. I also watched through the Garlic Jr saga and Trunks saga to the episode were Trunks warns Goku of the Androids only for it to go back to the Saiyan saga the next day.

I then watched all the earlier episodes I missed out on and watched reruns of the Saiyan-Trunks sagas for what seemed like forever until they finally aired the Android saga and was disappointed to find out they'd switched back to Ocean dub and were using recycled Megaman music which sounded really bad after hearing the epic Bruce Faulconer music in the Funi dub. This continued until the Fat Buu saga. Then DBZ moved from Cartoon Network to the new channel CNX in 2002 were to my delight the Funimation dubbed Fusion saga aired although it was only for a while until it was replaced by the Ocean dubbed version and followed by the Ocean dubbed Kid Buu saga in 2003. After that CNX became the full time Toonami channel were DBZ was rerun until it sadly got cancelled in 2005. These days I'm watching Kai on TV and am really enjoying the new version of my favourite show ever.

"The future of Gohan. The Future of Chi Chi. Not to mention the future of the entire universe. It all depends on me!!!! And I don't care if you're a million times stronger than me! I'm not going to let them down! So get ready Frieza because this time you're going Down!!!"

I used to watch it with my sister...I think it first aired on tv in 2000?

My strongest memory is sitting on the couch with my sister eating Pringles during winter watching the android saga.

I guess as a kid I just loved the story, characters etc. plus it was in phase at school...everybody would talk about what happened the next day. I always appreciated it, used to draw etc. but didn't start rewatching episodes until 2011 when I bought the orange bricks off Amazon.

Now I usually watch a couple episodes when I go to my parents on the weekends (its all saved on my sisters laptop).

I got started really early around the age of four. I caught it on Cartoon Network for the first time and continued to watch it until I started buying the VHS tapes within the next year or so. Then the DVD collection started during that same time too, since trying to watch it on t.v was pretty much useless.

I've been watching DBZ for 16 years. I remember that just being mainly the only show that I looked forward to watching all of the time. It's even cooler thinking about all the other shows I used to watch and wait to go off for DBZ to come on.
