Bearded Dragon Died

My friend's bearded dragon just up and died. I don't have the slightest clue why. It was fine a couple hours ago when I fed it some crickets. Then I woke up to his girlfriend telling me it's dead.

Were the crickets too large? What went wrong?

Were the crickets live or dead?

They were alive. I guess he choked on one. I just don't know how. I've given him crickets that size plenty of times before, and suddenly this time was different...

Yeah I don't think you're supposed to feed live crickets to a bearded dragon. Especially adult ones for that matter. I found a pretty good site explaining the kind of diets bearded dragons go by and a few do's and don'ts if you will.

I've always read that live crickets are best, that the beardies won't eat dead ones.

Weird. Then maybe it really did choke on one. Were they adult crickets?

Yeah, they were. I didn't know it was a problem until it happened.

Where did you get the crickets? From a store or outside?

I'd never give any pets food I found outside. There's no telling what bacteria and pesticides that stuff has. I always get food from a pet store.

Well if you've fed crickets before, and you bought them from a store where they're safe, then there shouldn't be a reason why the bearded dragon died. It either choked or maybe died from old age.

It might have just died from old age. How old was it? My Lizard Henry passed away after I had him for 13 years. He started shedding his skin more and more and then he passed away one day.

It had to have choked because it was less than one year old.

I didn't even know those guys could choke on their food. I've never witnessed that kind of thing with the pets I've owned or had to take care of.

It may have had heart failure or a heart attack. My brother's parakeet up and died one day like that.

Yeah lizards have very flexible throats. I think it must have died some other way. I mean...maybe it ate a cricket alive and it kinda blocked the wind pipe...
