Cops being cops. They're the henchmen of the politicians so of course they're trained to act like general twats. Makes people angry, gets them in prison and makes some money from free labor. Only explanation I can think of for now....

Quite a damning opinion, no?

Instances like this happen, and they're very bad, but some people just abuse power when they're fiven it. It's the individuals, not the careers, that cause these scenarios.

This is more what I think. The fact that it lacks an independent inspection is also rather troublesome imo. I think it's pretty horrible that not only does this happen it is encouraged...

Surely there are better ways to run things than this?

Even in the video in the opening post ex-police officers explain that they're trained to operate in this way. Police officers are trained to shoot to kill, and in New York officers are given arrest quotas so they're meant to arrest more people each year. Yes, it's partly down to the individual's judgement, but they're trained to think behaving like this is acceptable. Links are quite clear when you look at how the prison system is and then at how the cops are trained, no point being on the fence about it just for the sake of it.

Unless police officers only exist in New York, there's no evidence to support such a broad statement.

I'll concedd. Perhaps it occurs in New York. Aren't ya assuming that every other police force is exactly like that one?
