Sorry if this makes me look stupid. How do you calculate them? I know a couple times during the Saiyan saga they use scouters but after that they don't say anything about the power levels. So how do you find out? |

We as users use a combination of the original data we've been given with a combination of conjecture. For example 50x SSj was the original multiplier we were given in the Freeza Arc. Some people think that changed, some people keep using it. We're showing during the Freeza arc that the common stomping gap was around 1.2-1.3x so we use that to help us decide our numbers and then view it as how statements and feats work. So someone might look at Vegeta vs No. 19. No. 19: 10 Vegeta: 12 (A 1.2x difference as Vegeta was clearly stomping No. 19) However we then find out Vegeta even after getting good amount of energy sucked out of him was still well above No. 19, so we might instead have it as No. 19: 10 Vegeta: 15 And while every so often we might need to have an outlier, we usually go with what makes sense. For example unless its implied, we would never say someone is 1,000x stronger than another. We would work with the smallest gaps and then work up. Whether it was as AT intended, may or may not be so, but it often makes sense in the long run overall. |

It doesn't. Don't worry 'bout it. To address your question, first we make note of the gaps provided with the power levels stated in the Saiyan-Freeza arcs. For example, we know that Vegeta was 24,000 when he owned Cui who was 18,000 (which we know because he was stated to be around Vegeta's Earth level), so we know that if someone is 1.33x stronger than another, they can defeat them easily. We basically make note of as many of these kinds of gaps as we can, and then when moving on to the Cell-Boo arcs, we look at the feats and statements and work out the power levels as best as we can. |

Power levels are more than just a measurement of ki. Concentration and flow factor into this final reading as well. Scouters themselves are only designed to calculate amount, and doesn't distinguish between amount and concentration. This is the reason why Raditz's readings of Goku and Piccolo were different when they used concentrated attacks (Kamehameha and Special Beam Canon). Their ki amount didn't actually increase, just the concentration of it. The actual units used to calculate PLs (for scouter readings) are never explained, and were used by Toriyama just to exploit how much of a joke that numbers and readings were. A simple way of looking at it is that someone who's only 20% stronger than another person can stomp them, as displayed in the fight between Dedoria and Vegeta. If you have an Android or an iPhone, download a scouter and it will tell you your PL. |

Do you guys also use SSJ multipliers? for instance: SSJ Goku is mentioned to have a power level of 10000, 10000/50 = 200, so Base Goku has a power level of 200. |
