As many of you already know, I record videos where I play games. What I'd like to know is what I can do improve the quality of them. Should I perhaps invest in a better microphone? Maybe record the game and add commentary afterwards? Perhaps I should do more research on the games I play beforehand so that I can provide more information about them to my viewers? I personally like the latter idea somewhat but i'd like to know what everyone else thinks. Here is an example of one of my videos. I'd like some feedback please so that they can be more enjoyable in the future. |

I can't really watch the video atm, but I'm gonna say that you're doing the right thing in doing the commentary while you play, it makes the video more genuine that it would be otherwise. |

Maybe have your microphone up a little louder too. The music of the game should be heard, but I think your voice should be the thing that stands out in this kind of thing. The commentary's perfect IMO

Pel, I think what you need the most is a better microphone and/or a better balance between the game audio and the audio of your mic. Like Crash said your voice needs to stand out more since people will watch your videos mostly for the commentary. So that should be your no 1 priority imo. I also agree with Puccio about live commentary being more authentic and usually more entertaining too. That's pretty much all you need, really. I think you're pretty entertaining for the most part because you can be unintentionally funny and that's always good. |

I don't think you need to change anything about the microphone or sound. What I think could actually be helpful as far as entertainment goes is to trim the video down - edit out the parts that are more boring and keep in the best commentary. That way you could show highlights from the game without sitting there and showing the whole thing (since it's not an entirely entertaining game to watch). Check out youtubers like Pewdiepie for examples of this. Trimming the video down to like four minutes would help as well. ![]() I like your commentary, and I love your voice! Just my input, as I love watching video game commentaries on youtube. |

The thing is that all games have different audio settings and adjusting his mic to each different game is sort of necessary to make sure he sounds 100% clear all the time. If you watch game commentaries on youtube you probably know this. I'm also usually more into the standard 10-15 minute episode than 3 or 4 minute, but that's just personal preference really. I'd imagine that making 3 minute videos is a looooooooooooot more work though.BUT YEAH, SHOUTOUTS PEL. |

I've watched several of your videos. But I'm biased in the games I want to see you play. You might want to stick with really s***ty rated (Superman N64) games or really high rated games (Link to the past) to get a better audience. Also advertise. Like in your sig. Every time you make a new video put a big link to it. |

Shorter videos for the gag (s***ty) games, and longer episodes for the higher rated, more serious games tend to work best. But yeah, I just don't really think focusing on the mic should be a big worry for him given that I thought his voice sounded fine. Could be a personal thing, though. I dunno. |

Yeah, it depends on what he wants to achieve, if he wants to stand a chance of seeing his channel grow big and possibly even doing youtube as a job then he will need to invest in a better mic because there's sort of a standard quality for gamers on youtube and no viewer will want to settle for anything less than that standard. If it's just for fun and nothing else then adjusting the audio of the mic to make his voice sound a bit louder should be enough I personally lose focus/interest quickly when I'm watching a video and the commentary isn't super clear. But yeah, keep linking us to your videos Pelador and I'll watch them. AAAAAND play "Don't Starve" plz. I'll definitely watch every episode if you do. See how long you can survive!

Don't starve. Got it. How shall I go about linking my videos? I usually do three or four a day but I don't want to spam the forum with them. I think my mic is ok. You can hear what I'm saying so long as I have it balanced right with the game I'm playing and it isn't fuzzy or anything. I've heard a lot worse from people making similar videos. Mine's pretty good compared to a lot of the non professionals. I think I'd have to pay quite a bit for one with noticeable better quality. I really appreciate all this feedback I'm getting. It encourages me to try and be better. Which I believe I am doing. Especially compared with the rocky start I had. I gave you all shout outs in the comments of my StarFox video by the way since I forgot to do it in game. I wouldn't have remembered anyone's names anyway so it was better like that. |

My favorite Youtuber who does this kind of stuff is PewDiePie. Here's one of his videos of a gameplay: Spoiler: click to toggle I think what I like best about his vids is that he not only does the voice at the same time as the game, but he has a little video of him actually playing the game at the same time. Sometimes facial reactions to games are a heck of a lot funnier than the commentary. And in some games, the audio of the game needs to be a little louder than the voice, sometimes it doesn't. I think that really just depends on the game itself, not just in general. ![]() P.S. - PewDiePie does cuss, so fair warning if you don't like that stuff and you watch the video. |

Yeah but what has he got to do with my videos? It's great that you're a fan of his and everything but this topic was supposed to be about giving me some feedback rather than just praising some other guy's videos. Unless you're trying to suggest that I should make my videos more like his? I don't have a webcam so that won't be possible. Nor do I have any decent editing software. |
