I don't think they'd get stomped without the costume, as I have them just a bit below SSJ Goku (Cell Games), but inside the suit they couldn't keep up with a much smaller, much more agile Cell Jr.
They are way below that level, they are as strong as vegeta when he fought semi cell AT BEST, the jrs would stomp even the post rosat kids, they are overrated

He is wrong, the kids are way below the cell jrs, gohan easily beated goten and he wasn't even going all out, the kids are overrated trash
Gohan used just as much effort as Goten (all out). You can tell because he was sweating during the battle. He may have held back in his attacks, but he was still at full power.

 It doesn't show that Vegeta was caught off-guard, it shows that he failed to block/dodge one of Trunks' hits, which implies closeness to some extent.

The picture is a little small but Vegeta was grunting he had difficulty.

Then there's Future Trunks having to go SSJ to fight the weaker Future androids while Base Trunks could fight on par with Android 18 if it wasn't for the costume.
Because he was caught off guard, he was smiling before trunks started to attack him and didn't expected that trunks would be that strong, base saiyans can't fight 18 as it was stated in BoG that they are weaker than frieza, I'm not a kid nerf but it seems most people likes to overrate them
SSJ2 Unlike you I have read the manga, goten and gohan were mostly running and gohan easily dominated goten, the kids are weaklings
Puccioback- Yes, Vegeta wasn't prepared as he didn't thought trunks would be that strong, most people seems to ignore what they don't like in order to suit them

And wow, you're bringing this to a personal level, I don't like the kids being strong but I simply accept the fact, Gohan didn't dominate the fight with Goten, they were even until Gohan started to fly which is why the fight seemed to be interrupted. :p

And no, the fight was pretty much even, they weren't dodging, they were blocking, which is a totally different thing.

 I don't think it's impossible they're weaker, just as long as they aren't by a massive amount. I have them in the same area, with the kids a tiny bit ahead but I could easily accept them to be a little weaker too.

Trunks was about to cry when vegeta hitted him, that suggest a huge gap between them, you just fail again
Puccio Watch the fight again, Gohan was having the upperhand and blocking doesn't mean someone is close to you or are you gonna say now that goku was close to frieza because frieza blocked his attacks? (before he went ssj of course) or that goku was close to bills because bills was dodging his attacks? It seems you are not even smart enough to think carefully, Why would gohan go all out against his brother? If goten gets hurt chi chi would be mad and even goku fears chi chi, the cell jrs would stomp the post rosat kids

 I'm gonna go ahead and say that I don't watch fights because I go by the manga. Well dude, you seem really upset about this thing, so hey, calm yourself a bit and debate this like a good member. :p

@Blocking/Dodging.
Blocking implies that the fighter isn't fast enough to dodge an attack, and it's a feat that occurs many times in the series.

@Trunks crying
Trunks cried because Vegeta hit him when he wasn't supposed to. And of course there's a gap between the adults and the kids, duh.
