Maybe not even would know and/or is old enough to remember (as I'm not to be honest) but there was a huge backlash against Michael Keaton playing batman when he was cast by WB for the first big Batman movie, and look how that turned out. Keaton IS batman for me, and of course I love Mr Bale as well.

This also reminds me of the Ledger/Hathaway backlash, and again they both nailed the roles. Affleck did make me go "Whaaa?" but after a few moments, i thought "Actually, watch the film first....then decide" as he'll probably nail it.

Also Yes Daredevil was a bit rubbish, but watch the Directors cut of the movie if you can, it's got tons of extra footage, alternate scenes and generally is a completely different movie in my eyes. Loved it.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I don't remember anyone thinking Heath would make a rubbish Joker, pretty sure he's allegedly the only person they wanted for the role(that might be BS though since he died)

Never looked at any of the actors for the Nolan trilogy and thought :o_O: they picked HIM/HER? They all blended together well.

Spoiler: click to toggle

They don't look like they would be any kind of rivals.
Can you even picture Ben beating up Superman with the big metal suit on? It's not going to make sense as a versus.
Batman put's crap loads of planning in to beating Superman, 10 years IIRC but in the current movie verse they don't even know about Kryptonite yet.

He doesn't particularly look like a superhero does he? Or a billionaire/trillionaire genius. He may have grown as an actor but getting Batman right is kind of a big deal he's by far the most popular hero right now.
And as said already Bale was outperformed in the latest trilogy so he needs someone to better fit the role, they've got Superman pretty much perfect when you see him in the suit you think wow, that's Superman not wow that's Henry playing Superman.

As for Bryan until recent years he's basically just been a B-list actor, Breaking Bad doesn't really make him a fantastic actor he just fit's the role really well and the script is good, if the script or plot sucked you wouldn't be watching it just because Bryan is in it would you? No way, he's just Hal the lame dad from Malcolm in the Middle.
Few things about this...

Ben Affleck is a well-known actor, Henry Cavill is not yet. Casting a relatively unknown actor for a part like Superman was a stroke of genius, since they would see Superman, and not Cavill. Christian Bale wasn't necessarily a big star himself by the time of Batman Begins, at least not recognized fully yet. Casting Ben Affleck might be a good thing, or it could be a bad thing. All I know is that he has shown he can act and he can also write scripts.

As for Cranston as Lex Luthor, I am up for that. He is amazing as Walter White in BB and has been brilliant in almost everything he has appeared in since he was cast in BB. He hasn't really had any huge roles or anything, so it might turn out badly, but I doubt it. Bryan Cranston is an amazing actor, and if he is cast as Lex Luthor, I will be more than willing to give it a try.

Yeah I don't think we can properly judge this just yet outside of initial reactions. I mean the whole point of being an actor is to act, so it doesn't feel right we're judging Affleck when he hasn't done his job yet. Despite my initial reaction the other day, I've remembered liking him in Dogma after Emmeth or someone else brought it up.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Those all sound like nice people.

Heath fit in to the Nolan trilogy perfectly it was a lot less comic book esque than the other movies it would have been silly to have someone who totally seemed like the Joker in the comics when Batman is almost nothing like in the comics, the films are very loose adaptions really.
Heath is a bad actor because he played a gay guy?
Well, he got a fair few awards and nominations for being a terrible actor then they're making judgements over stupid things, he was a great actor.

Ben has been in way more films than him and has never really left much of an impression as much of an action man or even that good of an actor, it just seems far too big a role for him especially considering it won't be Nolan's Batman but comic book style genius badass Batman.

Still going to watch it anyway but I'd like to know who else they considered and see some actual auditions for them as well as Ben.
At least they never picked Jake Gyllenhaal anyway...

He's a fine actor, among the better in Hollywood.

Also, there was likely no auditions. They probably considered a few actors, but ended up with Ben Affleck being the best choice. He's in good physical condition, and imo he looks like he could the role of a rich genius type.

Novacane for the pain

There's no point pre-judging him, what's done is done. Sure, based on what I've seen him in I've never really pegged him as a guy that would fit this type of role, but it's going to depend on the type of material he's given and where they go with the script. Plus it's always difficult when you reboot a franchise so quickly, transitioning from Christian Bale to anyone was always going to prove difficult (not necessarily because Bale was like a godly actor or anything, he's just so fresh in the public consciousness as Batman). At least with an actor like Affleck we're getting someone who should be pretty different.

Snyder approached Affleck months ago, reports THR. Affleck would not take on this role unless he had some say in how this script turns out.

Ah that's much less worrying

Hopefully he'll try to make it less about Batman and more about Superman, considering it's a Superman movie...
But then, he is Batman is he going to want to not do much.
Then again he's a fan of comics and should want it done right.

Crazy Awesome Legend

Apparently it's happened http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2401617/Breaking-Bads-Bryan-Cranston-cast-Lex-Luthor-Man-Of-Steel-sequel.html

According to Cosmic Book News Bryan Cranston will officially be cast as Lex Luthor. I sure hope this isn't just a rumour gone out of control. He's gonna be epic.

I don't trust Cosmic Book News. I'll wait until we get some legit sources confirming this.
