I wouldn't be surprised if they're going to let him direct new Batman films which I wouldn't mind seeing.

Apparently this is only a rumor at this time, but Bryan Cranston has apparently been cast as Lex Luthor. For those of you that don't know who he is, he's Walter White/Heisenberg from "Breaking Bad".
The other actor that's rumored is Mark Strong (Lord Blackwood from "Sherlock Holmes"), who could be cast as Lex Luthor.

I'm seriously hoping for the Bryan Cranston rumor to be true. If he could play a violent meth mogul in a TV series, I have every expectation of him playing a great villain in a superhero movie.

Liev Schreiber could be a good Batman

It's great that searching for dudes who would be good there's like no matter what going to be pictures of them in suits, so that's their Bruce Wayne look right away.

Not sure about Bryan as Lex...
He's not a bad actor or anything but he sounds kind of gruff and unrefined where Lex is this posh billion/trillionaire guy.
Is he being picked because it seems fitting or just because of all the hype around him due to Breaking Bad? Hard to tell.

I'm sure he has the range to play a rich business man. Remember, he went from playing a wacky dad in Malcolm In The Middle to Breaking Bad..

Wouldn't he be running the risk of being put in a position where he'd be associated with the type of role he's had in BB and this? Can't be too good.

Yeah his acting is pretty sub par in everything but BB he's just some side character nobody cares about usually thrusting him to such an iconic position just because of BB is a bit daft.

Can you even think of anything else he's been good in off the top of your head? I've seen him in tons of movies and TV shows but had to Google it there because he's usually so off the radar that it's not even funny.

Only other thing is Argo though I'm not sure what his role in that is but it's popular, probably not due to him though.

If they're just picking actors due to their status like they seem to be it's probably going to end up a mess.
What if Megan Fox performs fantastic in some movie she's in? They probably would greatly consider making her Wonder Woman.
It's just not a good idea to do it that way.

He played a major role in Argo and he was in Drive if you've seen that.

Just because someone's under the radar means nothing. The guy's won several Emmys for his role in Breaking Bad (an intense Drama), so he's gotta be good at something other than comedy.

Daniel Day Lewis also prefers to stay "under the radar", and he's considered one of the best screen actors of all time. And it's because of the fact that he's extremely selective and doesn't take up every role that comes his way. Lewis is more about content of the character rather than the promise of a paycheck. If you'll realize, the best actors in Hollywood are usually the ones who are indeed "under the radar".
To provide another example, Anthony Hopkins was actually the sixth and final choice to play Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs, and was fairly unknown in the States at the time. His role as Lecter still stands as the shortest on-screen role to ever win a support actor award at the Oscars at just under 20 minutes in the entire movie. Due to them going through five other actors that included Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, and Gene Hackman, if Hopkins didn't agree to do it, the movie would have never been made.

Heisenberg/Walt in Breaking Bad, especially him in the more recent seasons, is just as manipulative and dangerous as Luthor is.
If you specifically look at the dramatic scenes in Breaking Bad, you'd never guess in a million years that Cranston's forte is actually comedy, and that he himself is quite the comedian. He's that good at hiding his true personality when he portrays Walt. This even goes for even his more minor, non-comedy roles.

I remember everyone being extremely skeptical when he was cast as Walt because the only thing that people knew him from was Malcolm in the Middle, but after the first season of BB, most people realized that Vince Gilligan probably couldn't have picked anyone better for the role.

Directors usually have a set list of people they want for the major roles in movies, and for 80 years, this has worked. Why are people still questioning this method?

I wouldn't say it has always worked. We just question it because we don't want to see Batman or any of the roles get butchered because of a bad choice based on "well he's a pretty big name, so why not?"

Positives on Ben Affleck:

- He has grown as an actor since Daredevil.
- He can help with the script.

Negatives on Ben Affleck:

- Action movies are not his forte.
- He has been in one too many bad movies.

I don't really have a problem with Affleck as Batman, honestly, but I can see why people do.

Uh because these are studio decisions and they don't always work out.
Like the majority of DC movies.

I don't have a problem with Affleck though.

I think Cranston is a fantastic actor, thought he did great in Total Recall even though the movie wasn't anything special. He is phenomenal as Walter White. If they cast Bryan Craston it will actually help me heal from the disappointment of Affleck cast as Batman.

People can say all they want about me not liking that casting, it's my opinion I'm entitled to it, as I said I'll give it a chance. And I have no issues with Goyer nor Snyder considering I really liked Man of Steel anyways, I went in the theater wanting to see an epic action movie, not one hour of romance, not two hours of drama and boringness, and I got what I was hoping for, action for nearly most of the movie.

Anyways really hoping for Bryan Cranston casting, would be awesome to see Walter White take on Super man and Batman

He doesn't particularly look like a superhero does he? Or a billionaire/trillionaire genius. He may have grown as an actor but getting Batman right is kind of a big deal he's by far the most popular hero right now.
And as said already Bale was outperformed in the latest trilogy so he needs someone to better fit the role, they've got Superman pretty much perfect when you see him in the suit you think wow, that's Superman not wow that's Henry playing Superman.

As for Bryan until recent years he's basically just been a B-list actor, Breaking Bad doesn't really make him a fantastic actor he just fit's the role really well and the script is good, if the script or plot sucked you wouldn't be watching it just because Bryan is in it would you? No way, he's just Hal the lame dad from Malcolm in the Middle.

Remember when everyone thought Heath Ledger couldn't be the joker, Ben might just pull this off. I will be putting more pressure on Henry Cavil to make the film though.
