Goten and Trunks were nothing to Piccolo until they formed in Gotenks who far surpassed his previous abbilities. The same thing would happend if Goku and Gohan used fusion. ObsessiveFanGuy: Gohan and Goku would provide much bigger boost with fusion dance than kids or Goku with Vegeta.

There is no way that Gogeta should be anywhere above Gotenks by wide margin, going by manga. Also Goten and Trunks pushed Gotenks trough another level, but just for sake of it i have Gogeta above Gotenks. The Toei is whole diffrent case. They belive that anything formed with Goku > Goku and everyone else, so only than SSJ3 Gogeta would be above Bootenks... Goku and gohan fusion would be equal to gogeta because gohan would have to power down ...therefore Gogeta=Goku+gohan/hypothetical fusion dance/ . Gokuhan would have the Mystic form as well as SSJ3. . Seeing as he's separate from them, only he would experience the gains. You could also argue that they 'mastered' the fusion technique. Goku, Vegeta and Gohan haven't used the technique before. Even if Goku had mastered the dance, Vegeta and Gohan haven't, so it wouldn't make a difference.

They do that also in SSJ form, but Trunks is not at full power because of Goten. Later they train in time chamber and this is what happend: Base Goten/Base Trunks - Base Gotenks who is > SSJ Gotenks that is formed with SSJ Goten and SSJ Trunks. The point here is that fusion character power takes effect after he is formed, not before it...
