Best Place to Create a website and get my own domain?

So to start out, I am no expert when it comes to having to code, so with that in mind what would be the best place for me to make a website? I know there were a few free and easy to make websites out there, and heck one of those might even be a good one I don't know. I want it to be a little professional looking but that it won't cost me a whole bunch either. I still have to see what I can afford but at the moment let's say no more than fifteen dollars a month, heck I might have to go less but for now I will leave it at that.

Another possibility would be for me to find a rookie friendly guide on building a website. I'd like to build a website more or less like: www.cbs.com or even like www.yankees.com.

Of course I will also want to get a domain name, I know I can get that at godaddy, but question is, would I be able to use it on the website created outside godaddy.

So I'm looking for the opinion from people who are much more knowledgeable then I am with this kind of stuff, I appreciate all the help, perhaps maybe even in the future someone can help me with building the website!

Again thanks for any help!

If you buy a domain name through godaddy but you want to use it with another host you will have to transfer the domain. It'd be easier to just buy the domain via your host.
Also to get a website like cbs.com you're going to have to have some serious coding. No free website place will give you something as professional as that.
The host I use for my website is zhost. Its really cheap and really good, but all you get is a blank domain. You will have to upload your pages via FTP and code everything from scratch. I'd look into some paid website designers if you don't wanna learn coding.

Well the website doesn't have to be as sophisticated as those I mentioned, especially since it could be a while before I even start getting a on a site, Im willing to pay for a site, I just can't really spend a whole much.

The issue with making a site for me is the fact that I don't really know any coding, though I'm sure I have the capability of learning it, it's something I'll probably keep procrastinating because it isn't a huge interest of mine.

As long as I could find something where I could create a menu, add links to it and images including banner I think I should be fine. It could be my start up point then if it does ever get good traffic I could possibly expand, as long as I continue to retain domain name

Well then one of the free ones is probably your best bet, until you get traffic.

I'm sure there are peeps here that could help you if you want to learn the coding behind creating websites. I'm a little rusty, but I have designed websites before.

Out of curiosity, what's the proposed website going to be about?

I have two sites in mind actually, but for now I will keep to what it is to a minimum. All I'll say is this, I have career aspirations and the sites will be related to it. I'm trying to slowly get things jump started and see if I can make a push towards my dreams.

Anyways I'll probably end up starting with a cheap or free web site maker, though I want to be fully sure I can have my own domain on the sites that I buy to make things more official.

I guess I'll end up looking around at some point soon for help.
