In Dragon Ball it wasn't all about gag characters and scenes. Mostly, it is. AT showed Goku as this near-invincible boy who lived in a forest. That's what it was all about. Then it all turned into some alien farce. Comparing a young Goku and Videl is completely ridiculous in my opinion.
