What's does everyone think so far of season 8?

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

Not quite there yet as I'm only at the end of season 7 but I'll get back to you tomorrow on that one. On the subject of the show itself, it is usually great with some occasional stretches in plot devices. The characters are all pretty good and well developed. Great show, sometimes only just good but usually great with really awesome moments. Definitely my number 3 only behind Breaking Bad and The Wire respectively.

Boring start to the season, though I haven't watched Episode 3 yet. Really wish they hadn't killed off Louis, we could have done with a multi-season villain to go against Dexter at the end.

Yeah, I expected Louis to be a lot more than a simple annoyance to Dexter. I was happy when he died but thought it could have gone a lot better. As for the start of season 8, the emphasis on Deb is a tad irritating. Good character and all but she is acting too bizarre.

but yeah it's getting a bit annoying.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Just caught up to episode 4 of season 8.

All I can say is...what?

Spoiler: click to toggle

Anyone think it's weird that Deb's boss keeps giving her those electrolyte drinks?
Is it advertising...or something more...
She had one before she shot that hitman guy, or at least before she thought she did, perhaps the drink had some drug in it that messed up her memory? Motive being that her boss can get all the money for the jewelry.

Probably reading in to it too much, he seems...off, though, he's a bit too nice to her.

Her boss seems alright, I think he really is just being nice. He also only gave all those drinks when she was hung over or looked really tired, that's all it really seems like.

Possible perhaps he'll even really consider for awhile for what she pulled at the end of the last episode.

I think he will consider it Vogul has already put the word "perfect" in to his head.

But then she'll probably say he doesn't need Harrison either, at which point he'll realize what Vogul has been doing.

Seems as though she deliberately makes people psychopaths, I wonder if she's ever killed someone herself...

I'm really struggling to warm to this storyline, honestly it feels kind of out of place. If she supposedly helped create the code, she's a pretty major character in his life, so why wait until the last season to introduce this? She should have come up much sooner, or at least the idea that Harry had some kind of confidant in regards to Dexter should have been established before now. I don't know, it just doesn't feel right to me and the excessive focus on Deb becoming a train wreck for the second successive season isn't helping matters either.

Yeah, bringing in character who knows Dexter's secret and actually helped created him was pretty poor writing IMO. It was just bang out of nowhere, hey I know your secret and I actually helped create the guide lines for who you kill.

So overall a pretty awful ending to what was a bad final season. So much bulls***, so contrived, so rushed. So disappointing considering how good it was at one point.

I thought it was fine until the last 10-15 minutes.

Why did nobody notice him taking Deb's body away, that was probably the most retarded part.
And he just dumps Harrison on Hannah, dick move, lol.

Pretty stupid she loves him, only person left who knew what he was and still loved him and he abandons her like that.

Also it made a point about how he doesn't have to kill anymore the episode before...
I guess he'd never be normal but with Hannah he was on his way to getting rid of his dark passenger at the very least, killing Saxon in the end wouldn't have changed that it'd just be a final act.

A happy ending would have been nice but ok he did a lot of bad things and killed a lot of people so maybe he doesn't deserve a happy life, redemption through death.
And then they s*** all over that by making him alive at the very end...

If they were going to go down that route then they should have had him do an evil smile at the end so we know he's going to be Dexter still, instead he's this washed up(pun intended) logger or whatever.

Yeah, season 8 was pretty bad. Season 7 wasn't very good either. I liked the way they played out Sirko but the whole thing with LaGuerta was just Doakes 2.0 and we already went through all that. She followed in his steps and died just like he did.

Having said all that, though, season 8 wasn't the worst season. I thought Oliver Saxon was probably one of the best villains on this show. He was very ambiguous, I thought well acted and just a very clever villain. I don't know. I really liked him. But the way they wrote him out in this final episode was kind of... Eh. Just getting caught like that after trying to kill Deb in the hospital?

If he was going to walk around bleeding all over town just to end up getting arrested in the hospital over Deb, why didn't he just kill her when he first shot her? Another bullet and she's done and he likely wouldn't have got shot either. See what I mean? Just poor execution. Deb should have died right after Clayton, or before they got to her. Then the Dexter-Daniel standoff could have been epic. But nope.

I thought Dexter killing him with the pen was cool and all but... It just seemed like it needed to go out with a bang. Travis Marshall went out great, even LaGuerta's death was executed better than Saxon's. And not only did they make him killing Deb just sappy as hell, his "death" was also silly. How the f*** does he drive into a hurricane, get his boat destroyed and then just live? What was the point of that? He could keep being Mr. Vigilante and following the code now without hurting anyone he loves because he's not Dexter Morgan anymore.

But the necessity of that has already been called into question and ... Yeah. I don't know. This show sort of fizzled out. It should have ended after season 6 and with Deb finding out earlier or not at all. I thought 1-2 were genius, 3 was good, not great, season 4 was masterful, season 5 was pretty good and season 6 was great as well. But Dexter really fizzled out.
