Awesome! Thanks for the replies, everybody. I'll summarize my reply to try and include everybody's input: I'm going with my dad and his partner, as she used to be a pro body builder, (which is totally crazy), and she's giving us a decent little plan to do, although we mostly just do a bit of "whatever" during our sessions. We go 3 times a week, (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), and again just do a bit of everything. We Bench press every session, do ab work (sit ups, with a medicine ball being thrown at your stomach/chest then sitting up etc). Barring that we do various leg presses, work outs for arms/chest etc, a bit of everything really but no defined plan as it where. Adding onto this, we do a final 500m on the rower, to assist with Cardio, although I'm going to be upping this considerably in the coming weeks. I've made improvement on my diet, I'm eating pasta most days for lunch over anything else I was having. I've dropped out cola from my diet, as that used to me the only thing I drank, and now only really drink water or juice. I'm not the healthiest eater in the world, but I'm trying to change that also. With all the above I've dropped about 7lbs so far in about 3 weeks, and am planning to move on protein shakes to help with the work out and muscle gain etc. Would people say its best to have "A Plan" or any further advise anybody has? Thanks again! |

Honestly. If you ''don't wanna look jacked'', don't go to the gym and spend money for no good reason. My advise is you stay home and do push ups, sit ups and if you can pull ups all on your own without equipment. Trust me, I've been doing so and I have done great progress. Cheers Andro, Yeah, I had been doing that previously but found it very hard to get motivated in my own home. As silly as that sounds, I think it's because I had to be my own coach, so i'd easily drop it and just not work out at all. Now I have others to push me, and thus make me feel like they rely on me to go. Bit of crazy way about it, but it makes me go hah. As such, yeah I'm not trying to get huge, but i am looking to drop a bit of fat and get into some sort of half decent shape so i look good, so this seems to be working for me so far, so i'll ride it out and see where I am in a few months time. |

You should still watch your juice intake since that has plenty of sugar as well Exercising does get pretty addicting. I was on a massive health binge a few years ago (it's a shame I can't get the same drive anymore these days) and I'd feel like complete s*** if I was forced to miss a day, so I'd run thrice as much the next day or whatever. I eventually ended up getting a few injuries which affect me to this day from overworking my body, so yeah make sure you don't do that. Edited by Buuberries, Jul 15 2013, 02:36 PM.

Cheers Buu, I only really drink anything that's suger free, or again just water through out the day whilst i'm at work, so I think I'm ok in the that aspect at least. At the moment I'm just trying to work my body fat % down, so I can start re-building with some decent looking muscle. At the moment, I love going the gym I wouldn't say I'm addicted, (as especially the actual weight I can lift in most departments is very little so it's a bit embarrassing), but I haven't really done anything physical in such a long time I enjoy getting a decent sweat going hah. I just need to push myself a bit more, to try and build some muscle, as at the moment i stop when I start to feel a bit of burn, when i should be pushing it for a long as possible I believe. |

My old volleyball coach would start our practices off with sprints and agility courses until we were gagging because we couldn't breathe, and then we would start our actual practice. I've always heard to "go until you hit the wall, and then start your workout." For me, that's running until I can't breathe and then taking a 3-4 minute water break (but not water-locking myself, of course, just to count my bpm and wait till it's around 100) and then start on my workout. I don't lift much, as I'm a scrawny 18 year old girl, but I do have muscle on me, believe it or not. The only lifting I do is barbells (biceps, triceps, rotator cuff, etc) and maybe a bench here and there if I've got a spot. Bench has gotten to be less and less apparent in my mind since my shoulder surgery, because I'm afraid it's going to hurt my shoulder, and most of the time I don't go to the gym with a partner, which may change after I ask my girlfriend to go with me here in a minute ). My brother, during his high school years, was HUGE on his health. Like chicken and brown rice for dinner, some sort of pasta noodles and olive oil sauce with herbs and such for lunch, and a Cliff bar for breakfast. Workout in the morning, eat the cliff bar, enjoy his day until lunch, eat his pasta, go work out for like 3 or 4 hours, come home with a protein shake already mixed up and half gone, shower, cook his dinner (cause I sure as heck wasn't going to eat grilled chicken every night), eat dinner, and then go for a run before taking a "rinse off" shower and going to bed. That was his routine every day during his summer, and he got pretty pumped after a while. You can tell you've lost body fat if you go to a lake or a pool and you can't float by just laying there, by the way ;D Best wishes for everyone's workouts!! |
