When you think of it, it really makes no sense. The other fusions follow a pattern of using parts of both names and combining them

Gogeta = GOku + veGETA
Gotenks = GOTEn + TruNKS
Vegeto = VEGETa + Goku...?

It doesn't follow suit.

Where is the name gotten?

Vegetto = Vegeta + Kakarotto (one possible name for Goku)

That would make sense, especially since Vegeta is the other half of the fusion, who only refers to Goku as Kakarot.

It is Vegeta + Kakarotto, Funi was kind of dumb when they didn't change that. Viz was smart and actually changed Vegetto to Vegerot which fits in with the English spelling of Kakarot.

The others are correct. It's the dub translation that causes it to make no sense.

Maybe Vegerot technically makes more sense spelling wise and all that, but Vegerot sounds incredibly stupid to me. I'd rather it make no sense and his name be Vegetto than it make sense and it be freaking Vegerot.

I'm glad Funi kept it Vegetto.

Vegerot is an ugly name. It reminds me of a rotting carcass.

^- Of Vegetables...

Excellent Naming Conventions considering that the Sayia-jins were based on vegetables or something.
