Why are people so obsessed with power levels charts, etc. Seems like every forum you go to, you get asked that annoying question...WHAT POWER LEVEL DO YOU PLACE THIS GUY!? What is the point? To kill time? Wasn't it clear in the manga that power levels were crap because there were beings that were able to manipulate their ki? So why are some people still crazy about it? Even with, Yo! Son! Vegeta reminds us that power levels are crap by letting his brother know not to trust that scouter. So why do we continue? |

I can't really explain it, I guess it lets you have a better grasp of positions between characters, also hypothetical battles between (hypothetical) characters is something that keeps your brain working, at least close one. I for one really want to know how my favourite incarnation of a specific character would measure up to other characters & may also help you see a few characters in a different light as they may be weaker/stronger than you thought.

Their whole point was to show how unreliable they are so yeah no idea why people are so obsessed with them either... It's also a completely fictitious thing, why spend ages calculating stuff like that when it's not official and wouldn't have been thought of? I doubt Akira even remembered they were a thing after the Frieza saga, it's not like he'd have made characters with a power level in mind they're just an afterthought to satisfy fans so they don't particularly matter. I think it's kind of dumb to have an absolute conclusion to a fight with them like a power level of 100 > 95 so 100 wins all the time when no fight is that simple it's only when there's a huge gap that it makes a difference and power levels are still meaningless in that case since the guy who's far stronger is obviously going to win. |

Its that power levels are crap, people can just lower and raise their levels. He says to not trust the scouter for that reason, similar to how Burter read Goku's power level as 5000. The reason people do power level lists is to create a guideline to follow in discussions, a way to further develop their gaps and give a general idea on how much stronger one character is compared to another. No one claims them to be exact, because thats impossible. Also people think its fun to make lists and get really deep into it, and thats perfectly fine. |

Nah, by having Battle Powers, they give you a good understanding of the gaps in DB and their strengths... Obviously, feats and statements do that too, but having a BP list really does help. |

Basically...it's to kill time lol @Crashbreaka Well not all, but like I said there are some forums and even in YouTube I get asked the same thing over and over. It makes it seems that's all they want, an accurate power level list and at the end of the day it will never be fact. Edited by NavonWise, Jul 7 2013, 12:28 AM.

Oh, well in that case I completely agree some people take them too seriously. Especially on Youtube :/ I only like them because I like numbers and seeing how they fit in

It just bothers me that people take it too serious when it was never meant to be taken serious. |

Well that's just how it rolls, Bro, when they see numbers in school, it's an allergy, when they see numbers related to Dragon Ball (characters), it's a boner

Bro we don't use those crappy scouters tho, we got a Japanese comic and calculators, y'hear? I got well-versed with them mostly because everyone uses them at one point or another and it sometimes makes a point easier to get across, but aside from that there's no need to dabble in them so much. |

It's easier to see things and explain points with numbers and aspects. Imagine trying to explain how Super Boo>>>>>SSJ3 Goku but you couldn't use any numbers. You had to explain how Gotenks this, and SSj3 Goku that and Base Gotenks this Post Rosat and somehow explain that there is a massive gap between the two. While PLs can fluctuate and be a bit different here and there but they should logically fall into a proper place. They shouldn't be all over the place and any good PL will do that. They'll all be like that. They might have different numbers but the aspect of each one should remain the same. And it's easy to explain all that crap with numbers. |

It's not hard to explain these things without numbers, why would you need numbers "to explain how Super Boo>>>>>SSJ3 Goku"? Lol it's simple because it's flat out stated so these numbers aren't needed. I think these numbers complicate things, I mean how hard is it to just say, this guy is stronger than this guy? Why all of a sudden there is a need to figure the exact number of the gap and this and that? Akira was smart, but not this smart, I always ask myself if the Japanese do these things as well lol |

Goku says Gotenks is stronger, we know he's talking about SSJ Gotenks as Base Gotenks obviously isn't. Base Gotenks (Post)>SSJ Gotenks Pre as remarked by Piccolo that Gotenks had a great ki and thought he might stance a chance against Super Boo. (not sure the what the exact line is but that's pretty much his thoughts. Then you have SSj3 and Super Boo rivaling Gotenks. You need to explain to people the aspect of amplifiers, how you get the, how the differences between fighters can work. Someone comes up and says there's only a 5x difference between Super Boo and Goku, you've got to explain to them how that's dead wrong. |
