I'm currently getting into a debate with a friend on Facebook because he posted a status basically saying that liberals are "unamerican." Do you think this is true?

I argued saying that in a lot of ways, they are more American than Conservatives given that they are more for equality.

I think that they mean that a Liberals idealogy is unamerican. However we're a nation of progress and Liberals tend to be progressive (or the other one i forget). If anything it's Conservatives who are unamerican because they don't believe much in progress.

By "american" people usually mean patriotic. And the answer is obviously no, because it's always been liberals vs conservatives (moderates excluded) from the founding of America (ie federalists vs anti).

Flashy Thing!

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

That is the American pledge of allegiance. Equality and equal rights are words that frequently flow out of many liberal's mouths. They are about changing and improving the nation while conservatives tend to either want to maintain the status quo or go back to the "good ole days". Both parties do share something in common, which happens to be a very American virtue, an interest in and protection of our constitutional rights.

I would never consider a Liberal Un-American
