He out thought a genius mind with a computer databank. He bluffed that he would hand his a* to him, but alas since all Gero had was earth data he wouldn't know Vegeta would talk that kind of s* so convincingly like on Namek. His data from the saiyan fight would probably show Vegeta wouldn't boast that he could beat him down unless if it was a certainty. Gero couldn't chance it especially after seeing Vegeta let himself be grabbed and literally ripping the arms off of 19 and killing him while laughing. Piccolo saw thru him with ease
