Well yeah but they didn't have access to TV or cool sound effects back then, fairly sure plays were more preferable in history too, if accessible. I feel watching something action packed is better than reading it, the music and shouting etc get you pumped up more compared to reading which is relaxing, sure that's good in a lot of cases but with action it makes it seem less exciting imo. I'm sure it's probably a lot easier to play through anime scenes in your head too, with a manga you're not really going to remember every detail to loads of volumes of the stuff. |

Well, this is complicated. Part of me wants to spam "Manga! Manga! Manga! Always Manga!" While the other tells me to remember the importance of anime. The anime is pretty much better known and more easily available then the manga is, and can bring more potential readers to the manga. But then there are all the many flaws animes have. Bad animation, FILLER, CENSORSHIP,diverging from the manga with it's own story line, though FMA did their own thing WONDERFULLY, and animes like Berserk, Air Gear, and Hellsing are still incredible, but the ending to the Trigun anime has gotten dumber and dumber to my eyes as these years pass by. Seriously, you're gonna take Knives to live among humans?! Why not invite Hitler to live in a jewish retirement home?!) But then again, anime does provide great things that can be (at least mentally) added to the manga while you read. Such as great music and voice actors. |

I generally prefer reading a manga to watching an Anime overall and there's no real exception here either. The biggest problem with the DBZ Anime is that it's made by Toei. Why is this a problem? Because Toei are fools. Other studios tend to seperate filler and canon for the most part. So while they may extend fights with a bit of filler or add maybe an extra scene to add tension, the canon parts are generally the same as the manga. Then they just do filler arcs which can be easily skipped when watching. Toei doesn't do that, they have short filler arcs occasionally but tend to put the filler in the actual canon episodes and stretch it out so that 1 episode only shows a chapters worth of material, which is horrifically slow pacing that lead to the infamous "5 minutes of Namek." They always do it and it annoys the crap out of me. |

Yeah I totally agree with Copy here. I mean I don't mind some of the filler (some of it is pretty damned awesome), but the actual pacing of the episodes just seal it for me. I'd rather spend a week or so going through the manga then have to spend several months trawling through the anime. |

The anime seems to me like a trollolol fest a lot of the time, which is why reading the manga is much more convenient. Convenient... is that even the right word? It's much more enjoyable in my opinion as well. |

I'm not gonna lie.. The manga is pretty convenient for me. I have it on my phone so I have access to Z whenever I'm need of it when out and about. Needing it for the forum that is. |

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I mean, the anime is basically just an interpretation of the manga into an animated format. It's like watching someone's copycat version of the genuine thing to me. For this reason, I always prefer the manga because psychologically I know, in the back of my mind, the anime version I'm watching may differ from the actual source of events. I can understand the appreciation and preference to the anime after reading the manga, but, without knowing the source material it always bothers me to be watching an anime without having read the manga first. Usually though, unfortunately, the anime comes first. Edited by Sam, Jun 26 2013, 04:07 AM.

Dude, not which you prefer! It's about which you think is better, there's a difference. Do you think it's better as a manga or an anime? Not: ''Do you prefer the manga over the anime?'' Edited by Andro, Jun 26 2013, 08:57 AM.

I'm cool with the amount of fillers in the Anime. As much as it contradicates the canon (especially Buu Saga), damages the flow of the series & terrible animations dictates, I'm cool with it. Fillers do a great job of adding the suspense, building-up the moments & some nice character relationships. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Anime & I'm sure thats the same for others here. |
