Who / How many of you people out there see the manga superior to the anime? They keep their standards, due to one obviously being a book and the other being live animation. Like, you can't say you prefer the anime due to A and B reasons, but which you think is superior as in the means it is presented (comic book - television). In other words, do you find Dragon Ball to be superior as a manga than as an anime? |

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

Manga, definitely. The anime contradicts itself both in the art and in the storyline. The filler is just irritating to deal with, especially when you're trying to debate with other people. The manga keeps true to the original story and to Toriyama's writing itself. The anime version completely takes Toriyama's unique style of writing and character dialogue out of it. I also love the manga because I can just pull out one of the books and reference it immediately if I need to. Canon is sacred. |

Absolutely the manga, although Kai isn't bad. The fillers can be annoying to watch, so most of it I just skip. I do like the fillers in the DB anime though. |

Manga. It's prettier, and 100% hand drawn by Akira himself. Don't get me wrong, there are certain fights and sequences I prefer in the anime simply because 1: it is action and just translates better on screen, and 2: it's what I grew up with. I also hate the horrid drawing and animation in some episodes. It's AWFUL. |

The anime also attempts to add emotion where there isn't any or make things overly dramatic/too much dialogue. In the manga, it's very "cut to the chase" and the five minute Freeza fight really is like five minutes, rather than five episodes.

The anime really gets bad when it: A.) Gives things that are completely contradictory to the manga. B.) Unnecessary filler. Some filler is nice, face it the final battle with Cell beats the unbridled **** out of the manga while still retaining the context of the manga mostly. If there's one thing I'd want at least, its for them to go back and do everything from early dragon ball to the Freeza arc and give it that same kind of animation they did for the Cell and Boo Arc, a clear update from that standard animation back in the day. |

Manga here, too. It flows smoothly and the pacing is just incredible. It defies it's purpose which is solely entertainment and overall simplicity. If you are a hard core DB fan who takes it seriously and makes deep meanings out of it then anime wins. Plus it had one of the greatest (if not, the greatest) impact over other major hit manga series. |

I think I prefer the manga too (although I still haven't read all of it). Filler just drives me bananas, and I like to be able to go through things quick.

I prefer anime most definitely. That's because that's my childhood and there's nothing better than sitting at home watchin' Z without a worry. Now, during my whole career of watching DB, I've always didn't like the things that didn't make sense. But ever since I've discovered the manga; the anime is that much better because I know what and why the plot holes are what they are. I know what was really said reading the manga. And to top things off -- I'm upgrades from VHS tapes now. I have [pretty much] the manga written at the bottom of my screen when I have the Steve Simmons subs goin' in action. |

I used to prefer anime over manga, but nowadays I'm leaning more toward manga. It's hand-drawn, the character development is better, the story is better, there are no fillers, and a lot more of it is left up to interpretation rather than being shoved down your throat. at least in my experience. |

Seeing the humans and Piccolo attacking Cell was awesome. I know one group who prefers anime over manga: youtube "fans." I put "fans" in quotes because it's obvious, based on the fact that they censor (as in thumb down until its hidden) manga quotes, that they are not true fans; they have a hatred for the original work that without which, the anime would not exist. They just want to think that the English dub is gospel truth and vastly superior to anything else, going so far as to actively fight those who want to talk about the original work. How can fans hate the thing they profess to be fans of? |

I say anime. I don't get why people complain so much about filler and not sticking to the original story. Anime is "based on" manga not "an exact yet coloured and moving copy", you can just think of it as an alternate reality to the original series really. In DBZ I only really found the filler with Marron(despite her being hot) annoying because it was fairly boring all in all, rest of that arc is fine though imo. The filler just get's a bit...what...when you get to Vegito since he deflects that massive energy ball in base, SSj would be major overkill going by that logic... I don't see how anyone can find reading KA-ME-HA-ME...HAAAAAAAA!!!!! More exciting than hearing a character shout it and blow crap up. |

Not sure in what context, I mean a comic book is just a comic book,. Story wise of cource the Manga is superior in its logical stories and rules but you can't beat the experience of watching the visuals, sounds, music/dubs(depending on which one you're watching) etc. But I love the anime more, including most fillers. Some of the best scenes are fillers(Cell vs Gohan ending, Vegeta's flashback with Raditz & Nappa vs Frieza/henchmen, Vegeta sr & jr with Bardock encouraging Goku to beat Frieza, Future Gohan and Trunks vs Androids, kid Gohan's dream of Goku returning home that turned into a nightmare about Frieza) not to mention the movies. In particular Bardock-Father of Goku and Future Trunks movie. That was executed better than AT's originals imo. |

No offense, but people DO like to read. There is a reason why people like books. Reading Kamehameha is fun to us because..we like reading? How can you say you don't understand how people like that, people have been reading for the last 5000 years. |
