So, it's generally assumed that Trunks trained between the time he warned Goku and when they fought #19 and #20, but it's possible that he did not. He has a time machine; he could have just gone straight from Goku/Frieza to three years later. His appearance doesn't change at all, even though (for him to keep up with Vegeta and Goku) he would have had to train for three years as well. |

The time machine takes 3 years to charge after a round trip. Kuririn implies that Piccolo's power was comparable to that of a Super Saiyan; the first Super Saiyan that Kuririn sees is Super Saiyan Future Trunks; however, Future Trunks (at #18) is notably stronger than Piccolo (implied by Tenshinhan and Kami). Future Trunks had 3 years to do whatever, and he ends up being notably stronger than someone who is implied to be comparable to a Super Saiyan whilst being placed among the likes of Son Goku and Vegeta. Piccolo: "Vegetas definitely stronger than Son Goku." Ten: "Even Vegeta and Trunks could touch #18. I doubt Son Goku would be able to do anything." Kami: "Even Vegeta and Trunks were no match, and I doubt Goku would make a difference. I might join with you." Trunks trained; if I were to guess, he used a gravity machine. They were likely still around if Bulma could find the time to build a time machine. |

Well , Even if Trunks trains , he's not a Fighting genius . So , i dont think his training will increase his powers a lot . | |

It takes the time machine 8 months to charge which is why some people think that the SSJs are not that much stronger from Yardrat to Android saga and why Frieza could beat 19 and maybe 20. | |

For what it's worth, Bulma says in the Trunks TV special that it takes 8 months to charge the machine as well. | |

you are right; but its odd that Future Trunks would have waited 3 years to go back and tell the Z-Fighters that he had defeated the AI. 764 Son Goku kills Freeza, Cold; Future Trunks kills Freeza, Cold 767 #19, #20, Future Trunks 784 round-trip 785 round-trip with blueprints; round-trip defeated Perfect Cell 788 Cell kills him; he kills Cell. Evidently, Future Trunks must have gotten stronger in that < 1 year span of time he used. He claimed to have been able to fight the AI better than he had in the sidestory before going back in time. |

Future Trunks must have trained, but, without anyone to train with and a large majority of the worlds' population devastated or in hiding, his gains wouldn't have been very significant. At least, not to the levels we are used to seeing. | |

Either Trunks is stupid and forgot how to train or Goku and Vegeta made small gains from Mecha Frieza to 19 and 20. Yadrat Goku was only a little ahead of Trunks who was no match for Future 17 and 18. Trunks goes home and is able to stay in rage of Goku and Vegeta while they had 3 years to train to his 8 months. Trunks would have to have found a way to get a decent amount of training in also he goes from no match to able to put up a good fight vs Future 18 I assume. Now why Trunks could pull a gain like this in the ROSAT trips I have no idea. |

It's possible that Son Goku made small gains because he didn't have as much time to himself to train, and Vegeta wasn't Super Saiyan for the majority of the time. Son Goku had to train Piccolo and Son Gohan. iirc, Vegeta seems to mention that he had hit a limit before becoming angry and finding Super Saiyan. |

Well Mirai Trunks was still a hybrid so his gains could have simply been superior to a full blooded saiyan in the same position. Also, nobody had more to gain from this than him. He had seen the devastation of the androids his whole life and it was not that long after his best friend and master Gohan had been killed, so I think the intensity in his training was very high. | |

Trunks trained for 3 years and possibly had another battle with the Androids ,while his time machine charged for 8 months. | |

No he didn't Trunks charged the time machine for 8 months and the went back 3 years later then he arrived. He is 16-17 in the Trunks saga and 17-18 in the Android saga. |
