I forgot to mention the DBZ Ocean Dub boxset which will be coming out soon.

I remember a year or two ago a lot of new members here were confused because they were releasing three different versions of DBZ at the same time.
Four if you want to count the Orange Bricks which were already on the market.

What really baffles me is why Funi even has 16:9 as an option on their poll. Are you f***ing kidding me? People gave them so much crap for the cropping on the Orange Bricks and now they're considering doing it again. If 16:9 gets more votes I wouldn't be shocked if they put out a 4:3 release in a few years.

Novacane for the pain

FUNimation do milk DBZ though with constant re-releases. I think they're starting to feel the effects of not having a big driving series on their books. Fullmetal Alchemist is over and has every release they can give it, One Piece doesn't have the same traction in the USA as it does in Japan and Fairy Tail is dropping popularity quickly. Meanwhile main rivals Viz have guaranteed hits Naruto and Bleach on their side and they have more goodwill because of their efforts to bring Shonen Jump to the US and their manga releases. Viz also has Beserk, Death Note, Inuyasha, Pokemon etc.

So they're falling back on DBZ to boost sales but as we saw with the last time they tried this, it's not even guaranteed to work. They need some new series (*cough Hunter x Hunter *cough).

Actually Fairy Tail seems to be growing in popularity here and it sells really well for Funimation.
One Piece is big for Funi but as you said, it's nowhere near the level of Japan.

All this does is confuse fans, and fans are already confused.

Wait, why is the Orange Brick collection bad? It has the cropping issues, but what else? I ask because I'm close to buying it. Also, for those who have the kai blu-ray discs, is it really any better quality than the remastered dvd releases?

The brightness-contrast is really screwed up. It's ugly and hard on the eyes. The pixelation is also bad. In general, it's just a very bad quality release. The Kai blu-rays are of much better quality visually; however, there isn't much of a difference between the Kai blu-rays and the regular Kai DVDs. I suppose the blu-rays are just a tad bit better.

The sets that brought us this terrible quality:

Huh? Why is the quality of those bad? I have always had that set, and its great quality. What other DVD releases has FUNi done with that exact dub? I thought those were the only 291 episode release by FUNi with that specific dub.

It is the remastered uncut version.

What is the best quality you can buy that isn't Kai or a dragonbox?

I think they re-released the orange bricks, but I'm not sure if it's the same crappy quality or not. Other than that, your bets are on the new blu-rays if they actually come out.
