I'm selling my car and some lady responded through email selling interest in it. I responded to her and then she sent me this:
Quote:

Thanks for getting back to me...I am ready to buy it now for my son, And due to the nature of my work, phone calls and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. Also i would want some more pictures and i want to know if i won't be disappointed in buying this item, with all the difficulties i would be glad to pay for it as soon as possible though i will not be available to come for an inspection due to my tight schedule.Kindly get back to me with the following questions below

1) What is the condition?
2) Are you the Owner?
3)Final Asking Price ???
4)Phone Number
5) Pick up Location address for me to forward it to the pick up agent
for them to schedule time and the date for the pick up?
6) Your Registered PayPal Name and Registered PayPal Email Address For
Me To Proceed With The Payment?

I would be glad to make the payment immediately through PayPal so kindly get back to me with your Registered PayPal Name and Registered PayPal Email Address For Me To Proceed With The Payment. You need not to worry yourself about title transfer and shipment,i will instruct the shipping company to handle that therefore in order to complete the transaction do get back to me with your Registered PayPal Name and Registered PayPal Email Address and total cost so that I can make the payment asap.

I will be waiting for your reply

Thanks.

The things that immediately popped out to me were the restrictions of not being able to call, not being able to personally inspect the vehicle, and the request of Paypal (when I specifically said "cash only" in my ad). The spelling and punctuation is better than most scammers I've encountered, but still. I checked on the tips and policies of Craigslist and I'm thinking this is a scam.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: The lady's name shows up as "Johnson Kate" in the email, which looks backwards and similar to another scammer I've dealt with in the past. A detective's told me that the guys in charge give these IDs to the actual scammers who can't really read or speak English that well, and that's why they sometimes use the last name before the first name as if that's how it should be.

seems pretty legit to me, but then again, it's up to you if you want to risk it or not.

This is a scam. Why? Because it's happened to me, over the exact same thing, i was selling my car on Gumtree and i got a e-mail about a person interested in asking for the exact same info you have been asked for, i gave everything and person agreed to take my car. So i handed over my Paypal details and received a sum of £1800 (full amount).
A person came to my door to collect the car a week later and i'd handed it over not knowing what was going to happen next. 20mins later after i had given the car, i checked my bank account through online banking and saw the payment had been recalled from Paypal the whole amount £1800 and strangely enough because it was still in the process of transferring according to the Paypal representative, he had the full right to recall the payment, so i ended up with no car and no money long story short but i luckily got it back in the end according to police.
My advice to you is do not risk this even if it is legit. It's not worth the time and effort believe me. Just sell it to a person that will come directly to you and collect it, cash in hand.

However amount of money there is.. It's car worth. That needs to be settled in person. I don't trust anything like that, especially with a large amount of money involved.

If they can pay for it via PayPal, they can pay for it via at your doorstep, cash, if they really want the car bad enough.

I suggest you don't do it. I'm not gonna flat out say, SCAM, but I think you'd feel better at the end of the day if you didn't go through with this.

Yeah, it seems that way. I told her I only accept cash, so we'll see what she says to that.

Seems to have the makings of a scam. Not only does she not want you calling her or want to see the car herself (which doesn't really make too much sense in the first place), but she then responds in the way of a 'leading statement', where she already assumes you've agreed to go through PayPal (which is generally the closing point for me). Sometimes I get weird emails exactly like this that are so obviously a scam

But yeah, see what she says about the cash only thing.

Well, to me, it definitely sounds suspicious.. I mean, I'm rather.. very young and I'm sure I don't understand much of it, but I wouldn't take it.. Especially after reading through these posts.. Though, then again, I overreact..

I stay away from risky things (One exception was made for Dragonball because.. it's Dragonball <3) like this, but again, what do I know about any of this x3...

Best thing to do, no matter how trustworthy or nice someone seems, always deal in cash for when they pick up the car for these things. I'd never deal in any other way.

I think the fact that after you said "cash only", and she insists on over paypal should be evidence enough for a scam. It's not worth it. My dad always told me. "Never sell anything on someone else's terms"

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

Just the grammar and word usage of the email screams phishing scam. I wouldn't trust this at all.
