This is just a one-shot battle that I wrote for a small contest on a now-defunct forum last year. It's very short, but enjoy. ~*~*~*~ “Vegeta, what have you done?” Smirking like the devil’s own child, Vegeta, now under the possession of the evil wizard Babidi, raised his right arm and pointed his hand in the direction of a far away city. Dirt and small rocks floated around his gloved hand as yellow energy swirled into the shape of an orb in his palm. “Fight me, Kakarot,” ordered Vegeta, the orb pulsing slowly. “Fight me, or that city and all of its inhabitants will be killed. You know as well as I do that I won’t hesitate.” The Saiyan hero Goku gritted his teeth. Was fighting Vegeta the only way to stop this madness? Wasn’t there a better way that didn’t involve senseless bloodshed? Being a Saiyan, he lived for the fight, but not like this. These weren’t the right circumstances. The orb began pulsing violently in Vegeta’s hand. “Kakarot! Fight me now!” Goku stalled once more. “I won’t fight you, Vegeta! There has to be another way!” Without a second thought, Vegeta released the orb from his palm. It rocketed into the distance. Seconds later, a mushroom cloud expanded into the sky. Smoke and fire rose. The possessed Saiyan prince snickered softly to himself. Goku clenched his fists and scrunched his face, the ground beneath him quaking. His lips quivered as his hair rose and his pupils flashed teal. “I will…not…let you…get away with that!!” He crouched and stridently, the ground cracking and shifting all around them. What’s this? Kakarot’s finally letting go. His inner rage is surfacing… Vegeta thought as Goku’s hair turned golden-white and began stiffening. Bio-electricity crackled throughout Goku’s blazing aura as he seethed. “Well? Come on, Vegeta! This is what you wanted, isn’t it?!” he shouted. Vegeta grunted and transformed. The same bio-electricity-filled aura surrounded him. “Let’s settle this, once and for all! No rules, no restrictions, no holding back! Just us, the two most powerful warriors in the entire universe, duking it out to the death!” Goku didn’t waste any time. He charged straight into Vegeta, raising his knee. Vegeta countered the knee with a knee of his own, but was too distracted to see the fist coming before it slammed into his face. As he was thrown away, he fired two rings of chi that latched onto Goku’s arms, forcing him to the ground. The Saiyan prince recovered, flipping in the air and landing on Goku’s abdomen…or so he thought. “Too slow!” Goku yelled, sending a large volley of chi blasts toward Vegeta from several meters away. Vegeta mustered up a barrier, blocking all of the blasts. As the thin layer of smoke cleared, he could see Goku’s silhouette heading toward him. That fool, he thought. He charged up an explosive blast, but instead of sending it toward the oncoming silhouette, he turned sharply and sent it behind him, catching the real Goku off-guard and hitting him square in the chest, sending him flying into the air. As Goku managed to recover in mid-air, he couldn’t help but grin. “I didn’t think you’d figure that out, Vegeta. I always thought those kinds of techniques worked on someone of your caliber.” Knowing his enemy was trying to anger him, Vegeta waved his finger in front of his face. “You underestimate me, Kakarot. I’ve trained harder than ever over the past several years, pushing myself to heights I never imagined being able to reach...and all because of my drive to beat you. I won’t be fooled so easily!” He skyrocketed to Goku’s position, throwing several fists and kicks, all of which were parried by Goku. Maybe I did underestimate him, but that won’t stop me from taking him down! Goku thought as he slipped under one of Vegeta’s kicks, grabbing his leg by the thigh and tossing him into the ground. Vegeta caught himself before he collided with the boulders below, fixing his composure and standing up straight. He saw that Goku was getting into his famous Kamehameha position. “So that’s how you want to do this. Fine, so be it.” He extended his arms out in front of him, connecting the bottoms of his palms. The electricity from his aura seemed to be diverging into the basketball-sized energy orb between from. He’s going to counter with the Final Flash, huh? This’ll be interesting. I can’t hold anything back with this one. I have to give it everything I’ve got. He tensed up, tightening his fingers. “KA…ME…” “I’ll call your Kamehameha and raise you a Final Flash!” Vegeta shouted up to him, the energy orb in his hands growing gradually, then tripling in size in an instant. The clouds above began to swell and turn into a dark gray mess. Lightning bolts struck down around the two fighters as their attacks grew in power. “HA…ME…” “FINAL…” “HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!” Goku thrust his arms forward, a blue sphere bigger than the average minivan locked onto Vegeta’s location. “FLAAAAAASH!!!!” The power from the Saiyan royalty’s blast came with slight recoil, sending him back a yard. His gigantic yellow blast flew toward Goku’s blast. As the two were growing near each other, the air snapped and electricity crackled between them. When they finally collided, the initial impact created a shockwave that annihilated everything within a fifty mile radius. The area became a baron wasteland in seconds. “I won’t let you win this! This is my victory! All these years I’ve had to deal with your bulls***, well, no more! It ends here, clown!” “Don’t be too sure, Vegeta! I ain’t gonna give up!” Despite Goku’s words, Vegeta’s attack was gaining leverage over his, inch by inch. No! I’m already putting everything I have into this! I can’t let Vegeta win, not like this! Not like this! Veins bulged from his upper arms and his temples. He pushed harder, but the Final Flash was still overpowering him. He had no other choice but to use a desperation tactic. The Kamehameha seemed to give out, and the Final Flash pushed it straight out of the planet’s atmosphere, presumably with Goku on it. The air and clouds returned to normal, but something was off. Vegeta could sense that something was wrong. He knew he hadn’t won. “That clown couldn’t have been defeated like that,” he said to himself, surveying the area. “He’s here some—wait!” High above him, he could feel an immense chi. It was rising rapidly. It already far surpassed his own power, but even so, it continued increasing. What was it? Was it Goku? But where was he getting all this power from all of the sudden, and how? Goku’s screaming cemented it for him. It was really the low-level Saiyan…somehow. “Damn you, Kakarot!” Vegeta balled up one of his fists, his nails digging through the glove into his palm, blood slowly trickling to the dried up, destroyed earth below. “Every time…EVERY TIME!!!” And with that, a stick of dynamite went off inside his head. He fumed, his aura flaring like a wild storm. Golden bolts of energy zapped the air around him, and he fell to his knees. Through all of this, he could still feel Goku’s chi increasing. The planet was trembling, not only because of Goku, but now because of the Saiyan prince as well. Vegeta, do you hear me? This is your master, Babidi! What? Babidi, you imp! Get out of my head! There’s been a change in plans. Majin Boo’s egg was destroyed by that ridiculous Kaioshin and the other Saiyan! I’m sending you all of the energy that was stored for Majin Boo! Kill that Saiyan, and when you’re finished, come down here and help me with Kaioshin and the other fool! Hurry! Dabura can’t hold them both off! Vegeta regained his composure, his breathing labored and sweat dripping from his face. He could feel the power flowing through every fiber of his being. He didn’t think he could get any more powerful than he previously was, but he was proven wrong. Babid had another trick up his sleeve, and it was just the one needed to fight the newly powered up Goku. Descending from the sky above, Goku looked completely different. His hair was down to his waist, his aura was more circular and fierce than the jagged one from before, his facial features were more angular, and his eyebrows were gone. Loathing was written into his facial expression. “I see you’ve also achieved a new power-up, Vegeta,” the long-hair Saiyan spoke with a much deeper, more menacing voice. “I’m surprised your vision hasn’t been affected by your lack of eyebrows,” Vegeta retorted, still breathing heavily. He wasn’t used to this amount of power. It was entirely unnatural, even painful, but it was necessary to face off against Goku the way he was now. “I’m almost glad you held back an entire transformation from me, clown. If I had won like that, it wouldn’t have been a true victory. Now we can fight knowing we’re both at our absolute best.” Goku responded with an afterimage, disappearing and reappearing in front of Vegeta, headbutting him. The Saiyan prince fell back, lifting his foot to kick Goku in the face. Goku twisted from the hit, throwing his own kick, but it was shoved away. They both flew at each other, catching each other’s punches and knees. They locked up, stuck in a stalemate. “Think about what you’re doing, Vegeta,” said Goku, struggling to hold Vegeta’s fists in place. “You’re allowing Babidi to manipulate your mind and make you do things you wouldn’t normally do!” “So what? At least I’m on the verge of defeating you!” Vegeta screamed, energy fluttering from his aura and blasting Goku a few feet away. “I’m sick of hearing how great you are, how you’re the best in the universe, when that should be me! I always worked for my power. I always pushed myself to the limit. I never accepted help from anybody. I fought alone like a true Saiyan warrior. Yet you were always praised while I was blamed for everything. You would’ve let the Ginyu Force members live, guaranteed to cost thousands of more people you were trying to protect. I killed them, thereby protecting future lives, even if that wasn’t my intention at the time. What did I get? I got scolded by you. You let Freeza power up to his maximum and cost the Namekians their planet, but you were celebrated as the glorious hero! You didn’t take the medicine Trunks gave you for your heart disease and what happened? You almost cost the planet. It was only because of me that everyone was saved, but what did I get? Not a damn thing. Everybody was too concerned with you. Even though I was the stronger one between us at the time, everybody always referred to you as the savior. ‘If only we had Goku, we can’t win without Goku, we need Goku!’ Bah! It was disgusting. Then, when Cell had beaten you in battle, you sent your only son at the time to fight him…a boy who had no business fighting someone like Cell. You didn’t even tell him your plan. You sent him in there hoping he would figure it out on his own, not even thinking that he could possibly be killed before that happened! But it was all forgiven when you sacrificed yourself to take Cell off the planet before he killed us all. Even when he came back stronger than ever thanks to you, nobody blamed you. You’re never at fault. It’s always me.” “Are you done crying? I’d like to finish this already and spend my last hours with my family and friends if you don’t mind.” Vegeta scoffed. Goku’s taunts were beginning to get on his nerves. “You’ll spend your last breath underneath my boot!” “We’ll see about that!” The two rushed each other again, blocking and deflecting every hit. They were still evenly matched. Every punch was countered with another punch. Every kick was countered with another kick. They each knew each other’s fighting style so well they could hardly find any openings. Goku managed to get past Vegeta’s defenses, uppercutting the Saiyan prince, but in turn he left himself open, and Vegeta flip-kicked him. The two of them ascended into the air, firing a volley of chi blasts. All of them were evaded. Goku performed another afterimage, but Vegeta was keen to this, and found Goku’s location with ease; only it wasn’t the real Goku – it was another afterimage! The real Goku came up behind Vegeta, axehandling him in the back of the head. Vegeta spit out a large amount of saliva and blood, stumbling forward. Before he could recover, Goku was on him like a rabid dog, landing a barrage of punches to his gut. “This is for all the people you killed at the stadium!” Goku’s fist broke through Vegeta’s ribcage, fracturing five ribs. “This is for all the people you killed in that city!” He spun around, his boot slapping into Vegeta’s nose, the Saiyan prince’s eyes going blank for momentarily. While Vegeta was dazed, Goku charged up an energy ball, sending it into him. Vegeta screamed as he was sent crashing into the ground, landing in an underground cave. Now’s my chance! I can’t maintain this form much longer. I have to put an end to him with one final attack. He crouched down, clasping his hands together. “KA…” Blue energy swirled around his hands. Inside the cave, Vegeta got to his feet, shaking away the effects of Goku’s attacks. That clown thinks he’s beaten me, but I’ll show him. He extended his arms upward toward Goku, assuming his Final Flash position again. “FINAL…” Goku teleported in front of Vegeta, hoping to take him by surprise, but the Saiyan prince was onto him, and both beams collided only feet from each other. The ensuing impact caused the cave to crumble. It was as if an atomic bomb had gone off. Neither of them had time to push more energy into their attacks before they collided and exploded on impact. Pushing a boulder off of him, Goku sat up in the rubble, bruises and cuts all over him. One eye was halfway shut. He forced himself to his feet, finding that his right arm was useless to him. It was covered in blood, and the bones throughout were shattered. His right leg wasn’t in much better shape, but at least he could still walk with it, albeit in silent agony. Did I get him? He wondered. The ground shook. Vegeta exploded out from underneath the rubble, his aura blazing but not with the same intensity as before. He was visibly weakened. The upper half of his outfit was blown clean off, and his ribcage showed extreme swelling. Blood was smeared across his chest. He had a deep gash above his left eye, blood oozing out onto his face. He was hunched over, having used a great amount of energy in that last attack. “You’re more resilient than I thought, Vegeta,” Goku commented, forcing a smile. “You look like you’re in pretty bad shape, though.” Vegeta laughed for a moment before his internal injuries caused him to cough up blood. “I’m fine…couldn’t be better. But you look like you’ve performed one too many tricks at the circus, clown.” Goku chuckled. “I don’t have much time left. I have to take you out here and now.” “You can try!” Vegeta disappeared, reappearing to Goku’s side but disappearing again before Goku could react. He appeared upside down above Goku, grabbing him by the head and throwing him into the air, where he blasted him several times with generic chi balls. Goku retaliated with an uncharged Kamehameha, to which Vegeta dodged with little effort. Goku made a sign with his fingers, calling the Kamehameha to return, hitting Vegeta in the back and dragging him right into a knee to the gut. While he was bent over on Goku’s knee, Vegeta used this opportunity to send vicious elbows to Goku’s ribs, hearing at least a couple of them cracking, accompanied by a sharp yelp from the low-class Saiyan. As he was released, Vegeta grabbed Goku’s head, bringing it down onto his own knee. Blood shot out of Goku’s nose, splattering onto Vegeta’s skin. Goku snarled, grabbing Vegeta’s leg and chucking him away. He began charging up one last, final Kamehameha as Vegeta was still trying to recover. “This is it, Vegeta! Kame…hame…HAAAA~~AAA!!!” “If I die, I’m bringing you with me!” Vegeta curled up into a ball, then thrust his arms and legs out, a large orange-yellow orb engulfing him. The orb expanded, consuming everything it touched. Goku’s Super Kamehameha flew through the orb, growing larger and larger as it approached his enemy. Cheh. To think it’d end like this. At least I got what I wanted, Vegeta thought before the attack incinerated him completely. Even with Vegeta gone, his self-destruction nova was still going strong. Goku regressed to his regular state, wholly and utterly out of energy. There’s nothing I can do to stop it. I’m done. Thanks for the greatest battle of my life, Vegeta. Maybe I’ll see you again sometime, and hopefully you’ll be back to your senses then. Goodbye, Chi-Chi, Gohan, Goten, and all of my friends. The nova devoured the Saiyan, ending their lengthy rivalry and battle at last. |
