Super Saiyan among Super Saiyans

Who do you think trained students most successfuly in the ways of the martial arts and DBZ power levels in DBZ? For me, it's Piccolo. Transforming Gohan like he did was truly impressive; Gohan would never be the fighter he is without Piccolo's tutelage. He also seemed like a good mentor for the Saiyan kids |

Well Piccolo was great at the beginning of Z. But I'm going to have to go with Goku. Goku got Gohan from being some average human level fighter to being the strongest super saiyan on the planet. I think that is something to note. |

I'm gonna say Goku because he seems to be the best at hand-to-hand combat while Piccolo focuses more on Ki attacks and King Kai's training is more about powering up and learning special moves than martial arts. Piccolo is good though but Gohan seemed to rely more on rage boosts and energy attacks than hand to hand technique. |

True. Just to be fair to Piccolo though, Goku did have the Rosat's -- 10x Gravity, 1 year in a day -- special advantages in his favor EDIT: Before Cell saga, there was almost no one with whom Gohan was even with. He pretty much needed his rage boosts to inflict damage and stay alive for the most part. For what it's worth, he displayed decent hand to hand combat IMO against Vegeta post Oozaru Edited by SuperSaiyan1993, May 30 2013, 10:44 PM.

Goku did find out the way to master SSJ which wasn't hard to do but Piccolo learned Gohan all of the important basics. Piccolo had the tough love thing while Goku encouraged his students with love and motivation. Different types of trainers. |

Why's Tenshinhan not an option? He trained Chaozu without needing a Pokeball to tame him!

I voted for Goku, but both him and Piccolo would be viable options IMO. |

Well, he did teach the the maggots the pecking order, as well as drill this into their memories.

Dude I still give it to Master Roshi himself! He's the one who taught all the Original Z Fighters that they could SCREW LIMITS and be whatever they chose to be. He turned Tienshenhan and Chaotzu, mentored a desert bandit, converted a monk and practically raised the Saviour of the Universe. Even Kami and Korin acknowledged that what they did of Goku wouldn't have worked nearly as well if it wasn't for Roshi. He also trained the Original Son Gohan and Ox King. Master Mutaito was cool too, but Roshi's protegees went on to do much more, were far more numerous and ultimately lasted a lot longer. Piccolo's training of the Saiyan Hybrids puts him at a close second, especially with Gohan. A Saiyan with Namekian, Earthling and Saiyan fighting styles? I just got my arse kicked three different ways and don't know which way to break down and cry, you dig? |

That was my beef with this poll as well. Muten Roshi blows them all out of the water when it comes to practical training. The list of techniques he knows is nearly limitless, and his training style is simply to make them stronger, but not force them to learn anything that he knows. This allows each one of his students to find their own path and become their own master. I don't think that Goku did that good with training Gohan. It seemed to me that he was more training him to be a good sparring partner for Goku himself. This is exactly what his intention was with Oob. I love Piccolo, but his training seems too cliche and basic. |

Piccolo's a pretty decent disciplinarian as well, so what makes Vegeta so special? Vegeta also doesn't believe in rest, which is a crucial part of getting stronger. This could explain why he wasn't able to keep up with Goku. |
