Since the 2008 special was referenced in the newest movie (which is canon to a lot of people now), conjoining the two universes, and apparently none of the Base Saiyans were stronger than 100% Freeza even a few years after the Boo arc (but before EOZ), how would you go about solving the Goten/Trunks vs Abo/Cado ordeal? The latter two were stated to be even stronger than Freeza if I remember correctly, and Goku said Goten/Trunks would be a "good match" for such an opponent. In the animated version, Goten and Trunks struggle against the two enemies until they're scolded by Gohan, and then do better; whereas in the manga version they go straight to work and win easily, while in their normal forms. Goku could have meant as Super Saiyans they'd be a good match for Freeza-tier opponents. What do you think? Do you think the movie and the special are just both wrong? Or do you think the fans have been wrong and the mediums just clarify this for us? |

Surely it would be based on the manga special, which shows Goten and Trunks handily beating Abo and Cado? |

But then that would contradict Battle of the Gods saying none of the Base Saiyans were stronger than Freeza. |

Yeah, well you can go about it a few ways. Short of waiting for subs, you've got to work with what you have for now. If this was stated casually, it could mean that Goku was in a suppressed/relaxed state, meaning that Base Goku > 100% Freeza > Base Goku (Relaxed), or something along those lines. Of course, you could also go down the route that everyone got nerfed, or that the SSJ Multiplier just rose exponentially instead of their base powers increasing. |

DB Manga logic actually implies that the base fighters are not as strong as anime makes them be. Forget PL's, Toriyama never created the series accordingly with 'em. Things change when they become Super Saiyans though, or truly power up. (I don't know if this goes along with the topic but I just threw it in there) Edited by Andro, May 18 2013, 10:13 PM.

I wasn't going by the anime for the Saiyans' strength. |

The late Boo arc aside, the anime tends to nerf them if anything. Maybe that's what Tarble thought, but Goku would have Freeza's full power in mind. |

Mind giving us some context OP? Most of us haven't seen the movie, as it's only out in Japan in Japanese. What was said about the 2008 special? |

I wouldn't know. I haven't seen the movie. But I've seen from more than one person that the 2008 special is brought up in Movie 14, and none of those people would make something like that up, so for now I'm going to trust that that's what happened. |

I've seen it, Abo and Cado are described to Frieza's henchman, but since his death, they've become as powerful as Frieza himself. The one problem is Tarble's scouter. It breaks (when Goku turns SSJ), but it's still functional when he comes to Earth. Now we know that the best scouters break around 500,000 (see Vegeta vs 1st Frieza), so it's hard to say whether he actually detected a PL as high as Frieza's (120 million+). |

Not necessarily about the scouter. Tarble had been exiled as a child. Friezas scouter was new, a model specially brought by the Ginyus., who even had personalized pods,as Friezas elite fighting team. We saw Dadorias shatter around 20k, much like Raditzs when Bulma was measuring kaioken Goku. Its much more likely that his model was that one given to him when he was sent away. Likewise they show Goku suppresses himself to 5k in his base form just like at the Ginyus. That's what he walks around and interacts with humans like Bulma and his wife at. Its what he measured at when he was heading to Nappa and Vegeta too. That number is just his comfort level of normalcy, like the strength Gohan uses as a Saiyaman. I haven't seen it but what i've read is that when they need 6 saiyans to create SSJG they mention Tarble. If this is the case then the 2008 must also be canon (assuming BoG is) as otherwise Tarble would be unknown/wouldnt exist. |

That fact is a slap in the face to Vegeta's reliability and a great part of the Freeza arc. There were only supposed to be five Saiyans left after Freeza destroyed the planet - Vegeta, Nappa, Raditz, Goku, and Gohan. Trunks and by extension Goten were born later so they don't contradict what was previously set up, but Tarble coming out of nowhere is a big bitchslap. Vegeta: "Oh, yeah, did I mention I had a brother out there that I totally forgot about for all of these years despite going on and on about how there were only a handful of Saiyans left when we were battling Freeza? Hahaha! Haha!" And nobody thought it was a big deal either. That's just lazy writing. |

Well yeah I agree thats lazy writing, but I like to think Vegeta forgot about Tarble, or was too ashamed of him (for being weak) to mention him to the others. Or maybe he was send to another planet as a baby and Vegeta was just a kid when that happend (i'm assuming Tarble was send to another planet before Frieza destroyed Vegeta) so he forgot all about it, or didnt think he was important since Tarble was weak. |
