Hack a Shaq

Not just in terms of Shaq, but overall, how it is used against players like Asik, Bogut, Howard. It's the most despicable strategy to use. You're admitting that you're an inferior team, when you use this.

I don't just say this, because the Spurs used it against Andrew Bogut today, but in general. When the the Thunder did it against Asik, I found myself rooting for Asik to make it, because it's just despicable and boring and absurd.

This rule needs to go.

Thoughts?

I think that should be outlawed from the game also, its not basketball, it makes the game boring af, and tbh that's a cowards way of telling you that YOU are better.

You're making it sound like that's there whole gameplan. It's only used when there's a couple minutes left and under 10 points deficit. It's been in the league for a long time and isn't going to change any time soon so just deal with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but who does the NBA serve? And what do I as a fan want to see? Some a$$hole who knows he cant even get a shot to win the game if he doesn't intentionally foul a player and slow the game down?! NO!

I want to see Basketball, players actually playing D not resorting to the cowardly ways of HACK A SHAQ/ASIK/BOGUT!

Btw every sport as we speak have made huge changes to the rule book, the NFL in particular, it almost seems like change is welcomed to sports world.

So don't give the bull sh@t excuse of "well its been in the NBA forever so deal with it" If that were true than there would be no 3 point line, and NFL players would be getting hit to the head much more constantly.

Sorry if I got a little carried away I just love sports in general. :)

Again it's only used for certain situations and would never be used early in the game. I agree though it could be gotten rid of but how many games in the past would have gotten the other way? I know for a fact some would.

Is it despicable? Yes.

Is it smart? Probably.

They're exploiting the big men's weakness which is often FT shooting. It worked against Shaq and it worked against Howard. Although if it doesn't work, it backfires on you completely. When Asik made his shots not only did he get easy points, but the Thunder looked weak and stupid.

In football, there's this thing called Icing the kicker. Kicker's gotta focus and not think to much about what's going on around them. But the opposing head coach calls a timeout and I guess that "ice's" a kicker's concentration and let's him feel the pressure. It's probably the hack a Shaq of football, but it is pretty smart.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I'm inclined to be against this as it is not great to watch, completely takes any flow from the game and is a cop out from competing. However, I also believe that since these players are being paid a lot of money, and that this is their job, they should just get in the gym and up their free throw percentage. It only has to be about 65% for this strategy to be null and void, and for a professional that shouldn't be a hard target to reach.

So maybe these players should take on the responsibility of their poor work ethic regarding such a simple and basic part of the game.

You're happy when your team does it to a certain player but if your team is the victim we cry about it.How to stop it maybe that player should work their asses on Free Throws. At one point Shaq became a better free throw shooting and that hacking started stopping.

That's not true. Popovitch used it in the 2nd and third quarter. Guess what happened when Bogut missed his two freethrows? They took him out, fueling the San Antonio come back. It was used against Howard all season, used against Asik in the third quarter against Thunder, used against Shaq for his whole career.

Do you think that these men don't try to improve there free throw shooting? They try there asses off at free throw shooting, but there's only so much you can do to improve your shot. If anyone could improve there shot so easily, there would be hundreds of sharpshooters out there. But alas, there are very few pure shooters out there anymore. I can name plenty of non centers off the top of my head that struggle shooting the basketball outside of layups despite being in the league for years.

So, you're saying that people can't foul centers or anyone who has bad free throw percentage anymore? That'll work.

Under certain circumstances is all I am saying. If you're fouling them to stop them from getting a dunk or layup, fine, that's natural, but to stop them from even being able to get a shot off? That's ridiculous and absurd.
