Goten was most likely conceived in the ten day gap prior to the Cell Games, and Goku died prior to the arrival of the Androids, and we don't know how long that was. For all we know, it could've been a year prior, which would mean Goku died too early for Goten to be conceived. Recall the Androids appeared on May 12th. Goku got sick the same day, and Trunks said the recovery time would be about 10 days. So when Goku awoke and took Trunks, Gohan and Vegeta to the ROSAT it was May 22nd. Add two more days for the time Vegeta &Trunks and Goku and Gohan spent in the room and that makes it the May 24th by the time Goku and Gohan exit. Add another 10 wait period and it's June 3rd when the Cell Games kick off and Goku dies. Assuming the gestation and pregnancy period is the same for Saiyan hyrbids as it is for humans. By the time the Buu saga starts 7 years later, it would make Goten 6 years old not 7 like he is stated to be. That means that Chichi had to be pregnant during the events of the Android/Cell sagas but not showing. I suppose we have to accept the Toei explanation from History Of Trunks that Goku died 6 months before the Future androids showed up. Goten in the prime timeline had to be concieved sometime in there. Obviously Chi Chi had to have been pregnant at some point in the Android/Cell Era, because Goku had to have been alive for Goten to be conceived, but even at three or four months, Chi Chi would start to show, which suggests a closer date to the Cell Game than Goku's original death date of the Toei suggested six months prior to the arrival of the Artificial Humans. The reason everyone says that his conception was most likely during the ten day period prior to the Cell Game is because Goku specifically stated that he wanted that time for rest and relaxation (only light training). He wanted to spend more time with his family instead of training, which was something that almost never happened. Him and Chi Chi probably got busy during that time. They obviously couldn't do anything during the time he was sick, and it's not likely much happened prior to the arrival of the Artificial Humans because he was training so much.

Like i said unless saiyans hyrbids have shorter gestation periods than humans do. We have to assume ChiChi underwent a 9 month pregnancy. Chichi getting preggo in June during the 10 days before the Cell Games means she wouldn't have a baby till March the following year. Leaving less than 6 years for Goten to allegedly be the age of 7 which is his canon age in the Buu arc. There isn't enough time. If we are generous with the 6 months before the android saga conception, then maybe Chichi was 3 months preggo during the events of the Android/Cell arc. Goku was preparing to face almost certain death in his battle with the androids and with Cell. It's likely him and Chichi rocked the casbah before the androids appeared and before the Cell Games appeared. They did share a bed every night for the 3 years Goku was prepping for the androids.

If Vegeta can stop long enough to get a baby then Goku who rests and trains better than Vegeta would have had ample time.

Seeing how the Android and Cell arcs still required a saiyan to actually struggle and train to obtain the SSJ form and was not spontaneously achieved to facilitate relevance to the plot for a character. Goten wouldn't be very helpful in the battles against 17 &18. We saw even base Gohan one armed was way above SSJ 14 year old Trunks ,to not even break a sweat while Trunks was left panting. The androids fierce combination of high power levels, infinite energy and high durability make them tough to overpower and as a synchronized duo 17 & 18 are nearly unbeatable for a fighter at or below there levels. Only benefit would be Trunks and Go an would have an extra sparring partner and could potentially grow faster. Since Trunks and Gohan spent years solo training because of circumstances. Trunks being too young for for Gohan and Gohan being dead for Trunks.
