Gohan and Vegeta's Realtionship.

Internet Explorer Favourite Manga Dragon Ball Z	Am I the only who's noticed there's been a sign of respect, possible concern and Vegeta thinking Gohan should've stayed on top or equal to him 1. Vegeta saves Gohan from the Ginyu Force(Sure you can ague that he's only using his help for his wish). 2. Once again Vegeta saves Gohan from Frieze(Same as above, but this time Vegeta was trying to defeat Frieza, but I don't think so). 3. Vegeta states throws around the though that Gohan could be a Super Saiyan in the making. 4. Vegeta even tells Frieza that Gohan's power has been constantly rising. 5. Vegeta doesn't object to the idea that Gohan stays at Frieza's ship while Krillin leaves(You could ague that he didn't care to begin with, but still). 6. Close to the end of the Cell Games Vegeta tells Gohan that he's sorry(You could argue that he knew he was gonna die, but he would have never said that to Kakarrot). 7. In the Manga Vegeta is the only person to physically Gohan in the beam struggle(You can argue that it was revenge for Cell humiliating him before, but still). 8. Vegeta constantly comments og Gohan for not Training anymore, making it known that a Saiyan should never stop. 9. Vegeta taunts Gohan about where he currently stands in power(You could count this up to Vegeta being Vegeta, but in the same sentence he says that Gohan quit Training). 10. When Gohan gets pissed at the Budokai and goes SS, Vegeta never mocks him and only looks over watching him, and other then The Namek he never says anything about not going out there(You can say Vegeta cares less, but I completely disagree). 11. Vegeta says that Gohan was stronger as a brat when he goes SS2 at the Budokai, and says that Gohan was gotten soft in peaceful times(Is it me or does it seem like Vegeta is disappointed in Gohan for being weaker). 12. Vegeta is constantly mocking Gohan while he's fighting Dabra, but more importantly after the fight Vegeta chews him out like a coach chews out a player when he's not doing what he's expected. 13. When Majin Vegeta can no longer sense Gohan, he says that he's sorry about it. 14. When Kakarrot decides to get Satan and Dende instead, Vegeta gets all over Kakarrot for it(Sure Trunks was also left behind, but Gohan is too, and Vegeta even calls Kakarrot about his sons too. Even though I get the feeling that comment could have been more about Gohan). Now, I know I missed more points, or could have even gotten my quotes wrong, but I think the overall point is still valid. Though cold, it seems like Vegeta actually cares about Gohan, almost like a Father figure, especially in the Buokai and Boo arc, how it seems like Vegeta expected more from Gohan and was very disappointed in him. Much how Kakarrot should have been too. Am I the only one who see's this?

Also remember when Gohan anounced his participation to the tournament before Goku showed up telepathically? Vegeta challenged Gohan right away but more like an intense sparring match to see where they stand at that time. If Goku never showed up it would have been very interesting to see their interactions and eventual fight.

Google Chrome Favourite Manga Bleach	Because Vegeta was Goku's foe at first, and he gotta respect that Goku beat him, or got tied in their first battle so as respect for his opponent, he saved his Son for he owes it to Goku. And a little after that, Vegeta and Goku are rivals, and Gohan was an important fighter, that's why maybe he saw the potential in Gohan, he sacrificed a blast for Gohan against Cell, if I remember correctly, all for his Rival and the potential he likely saw in Gohan, but I may be wrong. I ♥ Yoeri Posts: 20,075 Group: Legend Member #8,985 Joined: February 7, 2013 Country Japan	Gohan is one of the last surviving Saiyans (granted, half-saiyan) and in that regard, Vegeta would have respect for him (He did have respect for Goku too). Vegeta's character development is shown in the obvious choices he makes when it comes to Gohan. Saying sorry at least two times during the course of the series shows that he was turning good. Vegeta also knew about Gohan's potential, and maybe, deep inside, he knew he would surpass himself and Goku.

Chrome, Safari, IE Favourite Manga Rave Master, FLCL, .hack//legendofthetwilight, Naruto II	You know that's a part of Dragonball's Dao I've never really explored. How does Vegeta feel about Gohan? For that matter, how does he feel about the Z-Fighters as a whole. I think by the end of Z/GT Vegeta legitimately thinks of his fellow Z-Fighters and Earthlings as friends. Granted he's still gruff and tough, but he does seem to respect Goten and Gohan. Hell, even when Vegeta was fighting Gohan as Baby, he off-handily complemented Gohan ("Gohan is much Faster" - Episode 27, the Attack on Vegeta.). He also apparently bothered to memorize the Son boy's names instead of just referring to them as Kakarot's brats or whatever. Gohan seems to like Vegeta, or at least doesn't hate him and since the Buu Saga at least he's never shown any ill will towards him. Also I think Vegeta realizing almost instantly that while Gohan did attack him that he wasn't really Gohan or was under some form of mind control, that implicates Vegeta actually paid attention to how Gohan acted. Granted he's known Gohan since he was five and has been hanging out with him well into Gohan's thirties, so he knows him well regardless. Also during Vegeta's initial appearance he pushes Goten and Trunks to go adventure with Goku given that it would be good for the both of them. I think a less mature Z Vegeta would have simply said that he and Trunks would handle it, but I think he really has started believing in Trunks and Goten's competence and has settled into the whole family thing. But that's a whole 'nother thread and I won't get into that. So yeah... I've never thought about it given that the deepest interactions they got were antagonistic, especially early on. But yeah, I think Vegeta legitimately grows to like Gohan, and visa-versa. It's not like they're the very best of friends, but they're comrades in arms and by a certain point in the series... yeah they're probably friends. Or as close to being friends as Vegeta's ever going to get. Very interesting Saberoth.

I've never really seen Vegeta as a parent or family member to Gohan like this before but it does make sense. "It takes a Villiage to raise a child" is the old adage, and while most of Gohan's parenting seems to come from G... Chi-Chi, Piccolo then Goku (Lol kididng, but no I think Piccolo did an equal amount of parenting either way) Vegeta had an impact. Like Krillin, who's like a Brother to Goku and is still even Gohan's very best friend, Vegeta's been in Gohan's life since he's been five, almost like that tough love uncle. In fact, what Piccolo is to Goku in fatherhood, Vegeta is that to Krillin in "Unclehood" so to speak. Perhaps even more so than Yamcha and Tien, who logically should trump Vegeta in this list early on. Fascinating...

Before and during Frieza arc, when Gohan got pissed and or was stronger than someone he was serious, but during Cell and Boo when he was stronger he was very cocky, and that cockiness got him into trouble...like Vegeta. Yeah, you could say it's because Gohan's age, but I think it's something to think about. Something else to think about is, we never saw Gohan throw away his Saiyan suit, and he's More than willing to wear Bulma's model of it too. And his Super Hero name, Saiyaman, he wears the black Saiyan bodysuit, and the Saiyan gloves. Vegeta has been a big influence on Gohan. Edited by Saberoph, Apr 2 2013, 08:33 PM.

Google Chrome Favourite Manga Naruto	Krillin is kind of like a good family friend to Gohan. Vegeta kind of becomes a cruel but secretly caring Uncle to Gohan. Piccolo's kind of like his God-farther. That's the way I see it. Krillin's relationship with Gohan is very similar to his relationship with Goku.

Internet Explorer Favourite Manga Dragon Ball Z	I look at it this way, If for some reason Gohan died before Vegeta, I see Vegeta being one of the first 5 people to show up for Gohan's funeral, and I see him actually willing to go. Unlike Krillin, I more of see Bulma talking Vegeta into going.

Gohan was just for power , and later for Goku as he was his son who fought battles at age of 5 , nothing more , nothing special at all , given that Vegeta finds Gohan disappointing in Budokai and after that.

Not even Bulma and Trunks truly matter to him, since all of the omniverse revolves around Goku. @thread I agree, I think Vegeta does care somewhat about Gohan, or at least considers him relevant. Actually, by the Buu saga I think Vegeta cares in some degree about all of the Z group, I think he got a sense of belonging in it by that time. And in that group, I think that once you remove Trunks and Goku, Gohan would be the one that he cares about the most, be it because of his power, race, the fact that he experienced more stuff with him or for whatever reason. It's not an intense care imo, but it's there nonetheless.

Internet Explorer Favourite Manga Dragon Ball Z	Oh yeah, and to be honest I think with the Human fighters, I could see Vegeta getting along with Tien. But that's only if Tien let go of his grudge. This is why I wrote my Fanfic around these two, I think they work together very well, and I can see Vegeta as an Uncle like character, and a Father figure when Kakarrot and The Namek are gone. The reason why I don't think Roshi, or even Krillin couldn't fit the bill is because they're not either a Saiyan or they haven't been in Gohan's life as much as Kakarrot, Vegeta and The Namek, Kakarrot being the least. If you disregard GT, Kakarrot has only been in Gohan's life for 18 years and a matter of Months, The Namek has been in his life for 22 years (IF I counted right), and Vegeta for about 20 years. But what I think makes the difference is The Namek and Vegeta was there for Gohan during his Teen years, which is very important for a kid...since those are the steps to manhood.
