When did Goku achieve the SSJ2?

Basically all that we know is that he achieved the form sometime during the seven year gap. If I was to take an educated guess, I would have to say within the first 1-2 years, since he saw Gohan transform, and knew what it takes. That leaves 5 years to learn the dreaded SSJ 3, which we know is a very difficult form to use. I'm sure it took Goku a very long time to be able to use this form, even if he was in the other world. Its strange though, considering how SSJ2 requires intense emotional agitation as precursor of the transformation and Goku learnt it. Perhaps anger of killing himself?
