This thread is about who is the most hated by people in general, not just you. A lot of people don't like grown-up Gohan, but I'm pretty sure Gohan was very well liked by most from the BoZ till the end of the Cell saga. |

I always thought it was Gil. Yes, Pan got on my nerves here and there, but I think she gets too much hate because how bad GT was. |

Who are "people" here my friend? It might be true that Gohan has a likeable character, but definetly not without hate, especially post-Cell Saga. |

I'd say that's mostly because TOEI knows full well that Freeza is the s*** among many fans, so defeating him with utter ease is one of best ways to show how the others have grown. |

It's funny because I haven't really seen all that much hate for Gohan even as an adult. Sure he gets called incompetent for screwing up against Super Buu but it seems to me like he's generally well liked. Although he does seem to get a bit more hate as Saiyaman if you count that. Also for the record I actually like both Pan and Gotenks despite them being hated by many. |
| "The future of Gohan. The Future of Chi Chi. Not to mention the future of the entire universe. It all depends on me!!!! And I don't care if you're a million times stronger than me! I'm not going to let them down! So get ready Frieza because this time you're going Down!!!" | |

Gosh, did not expect the Gohan hate. I understand the Pan hate, but I really think she was just a wasted character. I mean they had so much to do with her. In her first appearance she was playful, bubbly and fun. In GT granted she had grown and changed, but she's got a legacy. The legacy of a celebrity, the legacy of a Super Hero, the legacy of an entire warrior race, a legacy of strong women. She had a lot to live up to, but she kept really getting overshadowed by awesome. I mean, her dad had the most potential in the known universe (quite a bit of which she inherited), her mother is the strongest human female (depending on how you feel about 18) in canon, as was her grandmother (And these two are Badass Normals that have no fear about fighting, with or without Ki, to protect their families.), her Gramps was strong in his own right and master techniques no Z-Fighter got close to except maybe Trunks (Charisma, charm, etc.) and do I need to explain Goku? All this SHOULD have created a bit of internal conflict, and during her brief spot light stints (like in early Z with Gohan) we see her slowly grow into these things. She's got Gohan's emotional sense, Goku's tenacity, Chi-Chi's fearlessness, Videl's natural will power (Who else is gonna try to slap Golden Oozaru Baby?) and Toei did NOTHING with it. But yeah, Pan gets the most hate, which I blame on the executives. I'd also say Majuub, but he's not so much hated as he is underrated and ignored, but that's another story. |

It's between Pan and Yarjirobe. Hercule as an extremely close second. Edited by DragonBallZ1989, Mar 31 2013, 03:23 AM.

I've seen a good bunch of hate/discontent for grown-up Gohan (Buu saga to EoGT), but almost none for kid Gohan (BoZ to Cell saga). |

Probably because he didn't get a chance to live up to the hype. They set his character up to be a badass and then he either gets lazy and nerfed or lazy and rusty, whichever you wanna believe. Sad part is it wasn't his fault, Fan backlash at Goku's "retirement" and executive meddling to keep the series going really derailed an important character development point and his chance to finally make the Manga his. DBZ was Gohan's story after all, he just got wasted as a character. You can see my Pan rant above, but it's functionally the same thing. |

The "gets lazy" as you call it, was way before he was removed from the action and replaced by Goku as the main character/hero. For half of the Buu arc Gohan was definitely treated as a main character, and then AT changed his mind, gave an 180º turn and pulled some sh*t out of his a*ss to make Goku the hero once again. Effectively leaving Gohan completely out of the action and ruining the end of his character arc. I think people don't like the fact that Gohan doesn't like training or fighting and that's part of why they don't like Gohan in the Buu saga as much, but I'm sure he would be waaay more liked if he hadn't been MIA in the final showdown against Buu. |

Ok game on. Tell me how I do. I put a lot of thought into this. I'm willing to make my assertment based on screen time. I won't use wikis or Kanzenshuu or anything, so I'll have to partially retract the Fanbacklash and Executive Meddling statements since the plot can't directly confirm this. Saiyan Saga: Goku dies, first time in Dragonball, boo-hoo, stakes are high, everyone has to get in gear. Granted, Goku does come back because killing him in the 3rd issue really would have made S*it too real. So half the time we do see Goku training for his return, Krillin and the Gang picking up the slack in the meantime, and Piccolo is with Gohan. And Gohan grows. Every aspect of him is about his hidden potential. His "Battle" with Raditz is our first hint. Piccolo throws him through a "mountain" (Or plateau) just to be sure that he can use the kid to rule the world. But his innocence and a combination of stockholm syndrome/charm brings Piccolo around, so much so that former Demon Prince is willing to sacrifice himself to protect the son of his most hated enemy. Granted it was plot relevant but it was enough to get Gohan a quick boost to make him appear dangerous. And then Goku shows up and we get a great couple fights. Lil bit of Prodigy vs Hardworker, visa-versa and that's it. Next arc, Gohan is on Namek with Krillin by himself, with more implication of his incredible potential both from Guru and through his fight with the Ginyus. He's the last one to make a stand against Recoome and pulled another massive power boost when no one else can stand against him... just until Goku shows up. And Frieza? Anytime Frieza powered up, Gohan was the only other one to power up to meet him. Through his rage induced hidden power, startling even the mighty/cocky Vegeta. An anime only scene adds Gohan returning to confront Frieza, and the tension really made it look like he was gonna go super and take over. Goku's "death scene" in the manga and the Anime both look very definitive and the story seems to be a plot induced retcon for convenience sake. The manga time lapse is believable to an extent, but watch the Anime explosion of Namek and tell me that doesn't look like they thought they were done. The Androids don't give us much since Goku is out for most of the fight, and Gohan doesn't fair much better, until Goku finally fails to defeat Cell in the final round and all this teasing finally comes to fruition with Gohan's ascension. Goku dies again, having used his one free One-Up on Earth, and Gohan with his father's spirit and his friend's help, finally does what his father and friends just couldn't do. Goku accepts his death, for once, understanding that he isn't needed anymore and officially passes Gohan the mantle of leadership. The Z-Fighters all openly acknowledge this. Hell, even Vegeta retires knowing that Goku's gone. That's pretty final, he didn't get written into a corner. And Goten's characterization (Or lack thereof) comes to this. He's implicated to have a power similar to Gohan's, but that's it. Gohan and many others comment that Goten is just like Goku in so many ways, almost reincarnated. In Goku's guest role, what was Sean Schmeal's dub line? He asked Chi-Chi if there was a "Little Him" hiding behind her leg. Gohan really grew into his own as a character, being much deeper and much more developed than Goku had a chance to be in Z. Goten didn't really get anything more than a "Goku Reincarnated" implication, much like Goku Jr. in Hero's Legacy. And due to his lack of depth, we ended up with Goku's return and the creation of a radically much more interesting (if not cocky and annoying) Gotenks. But maybe that's just me. |
