There seems to be a lot of controversy over this topic depending on who you ask. Some will say "Of coarse it was!" Others will say "Of coarse not." The reason for this debate seems to be Toriyamas involvement (or lack of). Was Akira Toriyama involved in DBGT? Was it his extension of the series? Some sources say yes, while other sources say he had no involvement whatsoever. Some people I've talked to say he gave over rights to the series to another company who animated and wrote it, therefore making it non-canon. Others say he wrote parts of it and gave it his blessing, making it canon. Which is truth? Which is false? Please discuss, and give sources as to your replies. My opinion? I don't know. I can't seem to get solid evidence proving one or the other. There are multiple sources stating different things, so unless I can get a direct quote from Akira himself, I am up in the air on this issue. |

The only thing GT is; is a side story created by Toei. AT wanted his masterpiece to be finally finished, so he decided that he wanted GT to be a side story. And, not fit with his canon material. |

Can you site any sources stating as such? I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm actually genuinely curious. |

I don't think AT was involved in GT much, if at all. So I guess that would equal non-canon. |

I had some troubles, but I fixed it. This topic is still ok and running in the GT section. |

No, that horse***** is not canon to either the manga or the anime. It contradicts so much. In fact, I like to think of it as an over-glorified fanfic that somehow managed to get it's own TV. |

Can you specify how it contradicts? Having watched it, although it's a bit "out here", I can't find how it contradicts itself. |

1. The Zunama episodes were pointless and stupid because it's retconned in the end that Zunama was only predicting earthquakes instead to make him an easier opponent. If that's so then why haven't the villagers taken notice to a pattern and burn him to the ground? I mean, he's not that strong. All Trunks did was punch him upside the head and he was knocked out thus meaning the bride parts and such were all pointless. 2. It also claims that Goku and co. were abusing the dragonballs ever since their first wish. 3. The infamous "Rildo is stronger than Majin Boo" shananigan. Considering the strongest form of Boo he faced was Boohan and he can dome SSJ3 Adult Goku in second but Base GT Chibi Goku can fight two-to-two with someone even stronger than Boohan. That's such a gigantic logical leap. |

Akira Toriyama himself noted that it was a nice "side-story" to his original work. |

I never really viewed GT to be a Dragonball show. I just saw it as another anime with the same characters and fragments of Z backstory. |

DBGT is not even canon to the anime. You know you screwed up real bad when you make plotholes in your own continuity that is derived from someone elses. |

It's only canon to itself. In the reality GT takes place in something similar to Z took place but not the Z we all know and love anime or manga. |
| "The future of Gohan. The Future of Chi Chi. Not to mention the future of the entire universe. It all depends on me!!!! And I don't care if you're a million times stronger than me! I'm not going to let them down! So get ready Frieza because this time you're going Down!!!" | |

Thankfully it's non-canon. The world would probably be in an uproar if it was. And I can't find that quote
