 Even in the anime Dabura is weak. The saiyans thought that SSJ Gohan was trash, and he was fighting evenly with Dabura. Since Pre Majin SSJ 2 Vegeta ~> SPC, then Gohan would be well below is in SSJ. This means Dabura is also below this.

Dabura > Cell

Before the fight with Yokan, Goku mentions how strong he thinks dabura might be:

Goku: ''Seven years ago we fought cell, Dabura is probably about that same level''

Then during gohans fight with Dabura Goku states that he underestimated him:

Goku: ''was that magic? Hes a lot stronger than I thought''

The buu is resurrected babidi ask dabura if hes able to take out gohan, and dabura replys:

Dabura: ''of course I can! we fought a bit earlier..I'll take care of this trash''

Gohan is then seen fretting and mentally, regurgitating what goku told him:

What goku told gohan: ''Get anrgy gohan Remember how you fought cell and use all of your power? if you do that you can beat anyone''


No explanation required here.

 We don't know which incarnation of Cell he was talking about. And that 'he's stronger than I thought' line seemed to be in reference to Dabura's magic.

 I really think Goku is protecting Gohan with the stronger than I thought statement. Dabura had an almost as bad showing as MSSJ Teen Gohan did, MSSJ Kid Gohan would have ate him.

Which other cell could goku be talking about? Goku was viewing the final clash via king kai, he knew gohans power would be enough to beat cell. which means he knew about super perfect cell.

And don't be silly, the ''hes stronger than I thought'' comment can only be goku acknowledging daburas ''overall' power; He means the magic helps elevate his overall strength, which would make him stronger than where he placed him initially, at cells level.

Gohan Fighting sense is trash, I doubt they would comment on power if he barely got weaker, The way they made it sound is like 50 or 60% lose. Vegeta and Goku was most likely mentioning gohan enrage SSJ self as a kid. Even Piccolo saw no difference in Kid gohan and Adult gohan power.

plus IMO Vegeta>kid gohan

Gohan had lost all his fighting skills and some power yet someone of Cell's power couldn't hurt him? If Dabura was toying with Gohan he was doing a bad job at it.

Either Dabura's great power and his skills suck or Goku is trying to give his son so more postive reinforcement like he always does.
