Ehh...I tried watching this past summer for the first time. I got thru the first episode and half of the second. It was too demonic, dark and gory. Its very mature not that that bothers me but when i say very mature i mean that arms get hacked off like every 30 secs in the first episode. But yeah I didnt like it too much lol too hellish and eerie in my opinion.

I watched the whole anime :D

Yeah, I actually really liked it. Didn't wanted it to end though...

I agree that it was gory, but it's not like there was no story, so I didn't mind it being violent.

I'd say it's definitely in my anime top 10.

well I ve found the manga's storyline better than the anime's maybe because the anime ended before the manga and that cliffhanger

Ooh...so the manga is actually longer and there is no cliffhanger? Didn't know that.

I guess I'll read the manga at some point...

actually the cliffhanger was a good option, cuz when the anime ended the manga was still ongoing so thats why the cliffhanger was a good option

"I am the bone of my sword."

The manga was a well written, well developed story, with amazing characters with said development and characterization. A splendid form of emotion that really made you feel for some of the characters as you truly got to know them and they evolved through the story. The artwork, which starts out pretty medicore, at the end is beautiful, with huge improvements and changes from Lynn Okamoto. The story is great, it's amazing how the plot and development works together and fits in, really impacting that action and drama that the manga is known for. There is a reason Elfen Lied is pretty much my single favorite manga of all time. What I wouldn't do for an Official English release.

Anime on the other hand...what a pile of complete sh*t.

Everything.

Everything that I loved about the manga. The story, the characters, the emotions, the development, everything got utterly torn out, screwed, cut up and then had the wounds salted. They couldn't get anything right. They turned Lucy from a manipluative, emotional, complex character who would more than once crack a huge smile to this mary sue (despite being even weaker than her manga counterpart BOS) Screwed up all the character's personalities and did nothing, I can't stand what they did to Bando in the manga.

Manga Bando: A complete bada** who starts out as this arrogant jerk and finally starts doing good, culminating into more and more appearances as he starts changing his way until finally culminating in what can only be described as one of the most epic scenes in the entire manga. One inovlving our good man Bando delivering the finest beatdown on a pedophile then showing off more badassery by going around taking on Lucy single handedly again...and nearly winning.

Anime Bando: Some crazy guy who jerks off to his gun or something. He apparently has to hit everything that moves and point a gun at everything. Even BOS manga Bando at his worst didn't go around pointint guns at his comrades, or hitting them, and actually made sure to see if Mayu was alright the first time. He also knew how to use the door, something Anime Bando apparently has never heard of, jumping out the window like some dumb moron.

Kakuzawa Senior gets turned from this manipulative/magnificent bastard, controlling the schemes from behind, you know the main antagonist into this random guy who had no reason to even be mentioned. No character, no plot, just..."I' m the bad guy..." and that's that. In the manga, he's a great huma villain, in the anime...he's just there.

And poor Isobe, I mean...bad enough not getting his character down right. Isobe never once acts the way he does in the anime, he's a surprisingly warm hearted character, one that eventually ends up biting him in the hind end later to...something. That's all I can say, he gets turned into something. Can't even get his character drawn right and...poor Isobe.

but then there's Nozomi. Poor, sweet, reason it's called "Elfen Lied" Nozomi. Appearing a full volume before Mariko and yet, doesn't appear.

The anime skips over all the good and necessary plot points, gives absolutely no developement to the story or characters, insults it more than often.

I'm sorry I could go on about how much this anime sucks. I hate it, it's my worst anime, only behind the second season of The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Because at least here I didn't watch the same episode 8 times in a row and even that didn't stop us from getting Disappearance later on.

Oh god, I just want punch someone (The anime director Momarou Kanbe mostly) when I watch the EL anime.

oh yeah..I ve seen the anime first ,the I SAID damn what the **** is that ending, AFTER I read the manga I can STATE that MANGA >>>>>>>>>>>>ANIME as u said everything is better in the manga than it is in the anime, however YOU CAN only compare the two after u read the manga .All in all if u read the manga first then u will find the anime a lil bit sh*t,meanwhile if you saw the anime first....(I mean havent read the manga before) than all in all the anime isnt as bad at all (:.....so its a bit subjective

being one of the best 10 anime and one of the 10 worst depends on that u ve read the manga before or not

I actually saw the anime first and thought it was mediocre at best. Then I got around to reading the manga, realized how much was changed and screwed up by the anime and said mediocre anime plummeted into be one of my absolute worst animes I have ever had the displeasure of watching.
