Hi everybody. Was wondering if anyone was interested in designing a map for the game "left 4 dead 2" with me. I've had the concept of what I'm hoping to make in hammer world editor for a custom map for some time and have fiddled with map making alittle but have lost motivation alot at times XD. Thought that if I made it a community project, something where if you'd want to help with anything, from map making in hammer world editor, to modeling if you want, creating posters for the loading screen of the custom map itself or even concepts for level design would be awesome. What I have so far is -the idea of a 3 map campaign called Frost Bite for left 4 dead 2. None of the maps are actually finished. The maps would be a continuation of the story in in left 4 dead 2 where the survivors are taken by helicopter from parish bridge finale. The story would be that the helicopter crashes from rough weather on a snowy mountaintop and the survivors emerge from the wreck and make their way down the mountain to some type of ecape vehicle or maybe they don't XD, maybe they hold out in some facility. I'm somewhat familiar with hammer to the point where I can make basic layouts of levels and place props and entities and custom textures but am still learning so it'll probably be months or longer before the map is finished. The individual stages themselves in the map so far I have thought about being like though they could be something different if you want like a ski resort in one of the levels or anything you think would fit the theme of a winter map First level - Snow covered mountain, like a skiing game or sonic. It would have a racing feel similar to those type of games. Something I'm really looking to try to make in this map is multiple routes to the same destination to add replay value. The biggest thing that I'm finding hard to develop the map is creating cover for zombies to spawn, since a mountaintop wouldn't have many man made things, the cover would have to be cliffs and small hills, which is a challenge to create something that feels like a mountaintop and not like someone placed a bunch of random hills. The end of the map would be an entrance to a cave Second level- Ice Cavern Third level- Bottom of mountain/fortress/escape vehicle A couple things that will likely slow down map making Textures- Blending textures to create snow has been something very confusing for me XD. I found out how to import custom textures into hammer world editor, so making some progress though. Also creating things like ice and fog and proper scaling to make it feel like the survivors are on a mountain. Level design- something I'm hoping for is replayability for the map. Something that offers a new experience after multiple times playing the maps. I was wondering if anyone could help me with coming up for ideas for level design and creating multiple routes leading to the same objective/area. Motivation- Making this thread and communicating with people about ideas I think would make me more excited to work on the map . So any ideas you're more than welcome to share!
