In my experience I can have the best of both worlds (at times).

PS3
Note: this is my opinion and my experiences and thoughts, if it sounds like im trying to state something as fact, ignore it.

- Ive had my PS3 for 3-4 years now and i havent once had it break down, in fact the only problem have ever had was once when i thought i had enough of gaming and left my PS3 for about 2 weeks, when i returned i had a little over 1500 messages and it slowed down the messaging system on my Main account, however i made a new user on my PS3 and the messaging system works perfectly now. This could be looked at as a downfall but then again, would you really let 1500+ messages build up?

-For me i prefer the PS3's controller as i have relatively small hands, i feel as though the controller is designed more for RPG's, Open world type games.

-Yes DLC's come to PS3 last most of the time, but it's not like we're waiting decades to get them. If you cant wait an extra month or a week, then you are just not really patient. The only exceptions to this is when a company absolutely fails to port correctly and fail to plan for DLC's to come to the PS3 (Im looking at you Bethesda, you have let me down, 5 years trying the system now is it?)

-Exclusive games

LittleBigPlanet, MGS (The ones with Hideo Kojima behind them), Killzone, Resistance, MLB The Show,Infamous, Starhawk, Medieval, Motorstorm, God of War, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Playstation All Stars, Heavenly Sword

Xbox

-I feel the controller is suited perfectly for FPS and the like, and i find that the lead games for Xbox are FPS (way to work to your strengths Microsoft!)When i use my an Xbox controller my entire hand has to stretch all over the controller, as it's a big controller.

-When it comes to the messaging system i prefer the PS3's a tad bit more, but then again i like how i can chat with friends while we're both playing different games on the Xbox.

Exclusive games

Forza,Gears of War,Halo,Fable,Viva Pinata,Don King's prizefighter. I believe these are the only notable ones.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When it comes down to it, it's all your personal preference. One person may like the Xbox over the Playstation and vice versa, as for me I prefer my PS3.

Thanks to Engineer I have this perfect quote for this topic:

I have a strong internet so Netflix on my ps3 took about 2 to 3 minutes to download. The internet speed and lag stuff depends on the internet provider. I don't see any argument with that between Xbox and Ps3. I always hear about Xbox people complaining about lag. If you are paying for a service, there SHOULD NOT be any lag.

PS3 for me..still have my original from like 2006 and its still kicking *****.

Most of my friends that have Xboxs openly admit that they think the ps3 is better but they just got the 360 because it was cheaper

Better exclusives (for my personal taste)

all the reasons listed above as well

I have both and they're pretty much the same.

It really comes down to service and exclusive games.

PS3 have more quality exclusives to choose from, but XBL service is far superior to PSN.

There shouldn't be, but for games like Call of Duty with their stupid external host thing, there will be. :(

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

How is XBL better? I really don't see how its worth paying for when you still get the same problems PS3 has, for free.

You shouldn't have to pay for broadband AND XBL, its your Xbox so there shouldnt be a running cost for you to enjoy games that you also enjoy, online multiplayer is almost what drives the gaming industry these days.
Microsoft doesnt need that extra money from XBL, surely?

PS3's are made with no real profit, I think it costs them something like £500 to make one and in Britain they sell for £200-250 or less.
So which is the better service? PS3, its not really a money making machine its for sheer enjoyment.

PS3 + lets say Black Ops 2 for 4 years online = £240-280
Xbox 360 + Black Ops 2 for 4 years online which has to include XBL per month = what?

Not sure how much XBL is but I know you're paying way more for the same thing over that time.
And again for things that are your property.

Thats like buying a bike and having to pay each time you ride YOUR bike, its silly.

I'd rather pay £30 a year to play online with friends than play online for free with strangers...

I think the best console (as in the one you can get the most fun out of) is the one your friends have.

Not that it has anything to do with the topic since this is only about which has better games, but everyone else seems to write entire lists of reasons why each is better than the other

How can't you do that with the PS3?

I really don't get the problems people have with the messaging on PS3 you can chat with text or headsets and send photo's etc.
What more do you need for a games console?

This is what I find with Xbox, people buy it for the cheaper(initially...) price and/or because their friends have it.
Because why get a console your friends don't have, makes sense.

But that doesn't make Xbox better than PS3, people just dont think about the cost.
Also XBL is subject to price changes when they add new things to it things like Netflix, which you also already pay to use(if you do)

PS3's social aspects can be changed easy if people care so much.
Still no fix for red ring of death...

Topic has eh...kind of gone of point, but we don't need to mame another since so much has already been said on the matter.

Games being better is opinion anyway, can't really come to a conclusion.

My Xbox is quieter than my PS3 and takes up less space. Makes a better table too since the top is flat.
