How come Frieza and other aliens are able to understand the Z fighters or anyone from another planet they run into? Is there some sort of universal language?

Because in the world of dbz everybody speaks English :p

Maybe it has to do with the planet trade. When Freeza would interact with other planets they could exchange language. That's my wild theory about it.

Perhaps at one time the Atlanteans with their advanced technology, made contact with all the other aliens and taught them their ways, therefore making a universal language. English, Japanese you name it (Depending on the dub you watch)

Don't the Namekian's have a different language, or is that just filler?

They have a different language.

Easiest way to explain it would be Toriyama wanted characters to understand each other by default.

Even though everyone seems to know Japanese there are still native terms and names (Vegeta, Kakarate, Nappa, etc are all Saiyan terms/names) that are exclusive to other places besides Earth/Japan.

It actually makes perfect sense in DBZ. All the God's speak Japanese/English/Whatever Language you watch, so the rest of the universe would follow.

possible in universe explanation. many races are explicitly called out as "human" and the humans of earth are referred to as "earthlings" my theory is that DB takes place thousands of years in the future, and humanity sent out several generation starships to colonize other planets. because so many races spoke descendants of a common language, reverse engineering that language was easy, and so the old language was made the universal language. and yes, this means that saiyans are descended from earthlings, and that's why they are able to interbreed.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god

I like to think, as both the narrator and adult Gohan were voiced by the same person, the events of DBZ are actually a retelling through the mind of Gohan. Therefore, while they're all speaking in English, that is only so the viewer may understand. I firmly believe that in truth, as the fighters and villains were separated by multiple language barriers, all of the dialogue was in fact interpretive dance in real life.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

Due to the fact that the Dragonball Universe is a fictional story, and not real, it would be very difficult for readers to understand diverse unknown Alien languages.

:p That's the cut and dry answer, of course.

But, the anime reference to Freeza's native language is non-canon, but, I assume that's already obvious.

They probably took down language notes in their scouters like Freeza did to get a note of Nail's regeneration.
