Our government can act like a bit of a nanny state at times and this was just one the examples. There was a 10+ year campaign for this and a lot of great games over the years haven't been sold here. Also, I wouldn't get your hopes up about having games reclassified either. You can only submit for re-classification two years after your first classified, and by that time most companies won't see the point in it. This is still good news though, buying directly from here is easier than importing games I want like I and so many others were doing before. |

EDIT: Damn you, Copy! You beat me to it! ![]() It was previously illegal to classify games R18+ down here for some reason, so all of the games classified R18+ in countries like America, were banned down here. (Didn't stop me though, I use to buy banned games online from the UK ) but now, I can just walk down to EB and buy some. Believe it or not, gamers were trying to change that law for over 10 years.Edited by GrooseStrikesBack, Jan 2 2013, 02:00 PM.

So what would happen if you were caught with R18+ games beforehand? Imagine how annoying it would be going to jail just because you had some games... Suppose a lot of you will have way more money to spend on games now I'd imagine the R18+ game sales are going to be really high for a while then lol, maybe that was the plan. |

It's good that our government has finally addressed this - except that it's years overdue. However, it is bitter sweet that even though that we've finally got r18, games that were refused classification previously would have to resubmit to be able to get the new rating - and from what I understand, the process for putting games through to the classification board isn't exactly cheap... so I'm not holding my breath on seeing Mortal Kombat in aussie stores any time soon... |
